I have watched a couple of "how to teach your dog high five" videos but the ones i have seen don't show me how to make achilles get his paw up. Everytime i have him reach out he uses his mouth not his paws.

Just trying to get some insider tips.

The way I've taught high five is to have the dog in a sit and have the treat in the hand I want the dog to touch. just hold your closed hand(so he can't sneak the treat) chest high to the dog and wait for him to paw at your hand. As soon as he paws at your hand say 'high five' and give him the treat. Repeat, repeat, repeat!! If he tries to mouthe your hand, calmly say, 'no' and move the treat away. So he'll learn that mouthing means the treat goes away...pawing means he gets the treat. As soon as you see it click you can try it with your open (empty-no treat) hand and give him the treat from your other hand.

Thora picked up high five all on her own somehow, lol

Does Achilles know "shake"? That picture was taken right after I taught her "shake." She just sorta picked it up on her own and does it automatically when your hand is higher than the "shake" position. We never actually assigned it a command but regardless, every time you give her the "shake" command she evaluates where your hand is and tries to meet it with her paw. Smart little cookie.
For "shake"- I literally picked her paw up with the hand gesture I wanted to use for the command (hand out, palm open). I treated her each time I picked her paw up while saying "shake" and after a few times I would give her a chance to respond on her own with the hand signal. She picked it up in 5 minutes flat.

This is how we taught Napoleon as well. We taught him paw first with an open palm facing up. He was good at shake and literally learned it in 5 minutes. With high five, we held our hand a little higher up and with your palm facing him (instead of facing up). With shake, he puts his paw in your hand, with high five he reaches up a little further and this gets him to put his paw to your hand in a vertical position.

He must be a southpaw because he always does shake and high five with his left paw first.
