Our new baby boy gets the hiccups about 3 times a day or so. It's not right after eating or drinking either so it's not because he's doing either of those things too quickly. My first boxer has never had the hiccups. Any thoughts? Is this normal? Anything I can do to help them go away?

Yes, it's very normal for young puppies. Rather like for young humans ;) They generally grow out of it as they age.

Hiccups are a collision of the heart and diaphragm. Perhaps not such a surprise that they affect youngsters more often, as their internal organs are still growing and don't necessarily grow at a constant rate. Hard to know the exact reason, but whatever it is, it is a common thing for babies of all species.

Hiccups

Hi,
Kingston had them all the time when he was smaller (he is just at 6 mo's now). He still gets them a few times a week. The vet said not to worry unless he is vomitting or hacking stuff up as a result of them :)

I'm confused. Do you mean that the actual heart myocardium hits the diaphragm, or are you speaking to the surrounding of the heart, I understand that the pericardium is attached to the diaphragm which helps enclose the area surrounding the heart. I always heard that hiccups were an irritation to the diaphragm from things such as air, or stomach causes, never the heart....I was just wondering the physiology of this!
