Hey Guys!

So the day we got Toby we noticed he had the hiccups, then its been on-going every so often every since. Sometimes after he goes outside and runs around a bit, sometimes after eating and sometime in the middle of a dead sleep. At first it was a little scary cause I had no idea that dogs even got hiccups but after talking to the Vet she said it was a natural puppy thing. But being that Toby is now 4 months old you would think he would grow out of it...right? But no he keeps hiccupping. Will he ever grow out of it??

It's a puppy thing! There are several other threads on here about the same thing and the concensus is that he will grow out of it. That's been my experience. But enjoy it while it lasts because it will just be another sign that he's growing up!

Tyson used to get them all the time when he was smaller. He is 9months old now, and gets them occasionally. We always just got a kick out of it. Still do. About 2 days ago, my oldest daughter yelled downstairs to me that something was wrong with Tyson. I run upstairs to find him laying on the floor with hiccups. She never saw him have them before. She got a kick out of watching him once she realized he was ok. You'd think being 22 she would have figured it out, but glad she yelled for me too.

Yes, he will grow out of it :) At 4 months I'd still consider him a puppy. It will get less and less as he gets older.

Such a puppy thing. My last sweet girl had them so bad one night in her sleep she knocked herself off the couch  But, like people, the scare got rid of her hiccups. And, yes, one day the hiccups are gone and they are no longer puppies :)

Zeus is 6 months old and he still occasionally has hiccups, esp. after eating! His vet said it is a normal thing in puppies.

Its a normal puppy thing. My two are almost 2yrs old, and still occasionally get them. Usually its after getting a little nervous. Last time it happened clay got all riled up because he thought someone was at the door. Resulted in about 30 minutes of hiccups.

Venus used to get them ALL the time. At first I was scared thinking she was sick or something, but now she only gets them every once in a while. (She's 13 weeks now).

Oh my gosh!! I just caught this thread but both Deuce AND Duchess get them all the time! Its so funny! My vet said the same thing....Its a puppy thing, but its still worries me when they do it for 30 minutes. Oh and the hiccuping off the couch thing???? Deuce did that too!!!!! How funny! :D

Yup, completely normal! :) Hurricane had them until he was almost a year, although they did get less and less frequent as he grew. At 4 months, your baby is still VERY much a puppy. No worries, he will grow out of them eventually ;)
