Boxer Pal
Hello, having just recently joined BW, I was wondering whether anyone else has the same problem as we do. Bron our eldest boxer is allergic to nettles and carpet. On contact with carpet his ears start to go scabby and really itchy (we now have no carpets in our house whatsoever). Nettles are the major issue - on contact he develops hives that spread all over his body. I have to carry anti-histamine tablets wherever we go. If it gets too bad he has to have an adrenalin injection. We have now discovered that Dimmy (the pup) is allergic to insect bites/stings. Again she gets hives. They are not from the same litter! Is this common in the breed? :(

There are quite a few Boxers that have allergies to one thing or another (My furbaby included). Your best bet (to start with) would be to use the "search" button above and look for "allergies". You'll find a wealth of information - so you might find what you're looking for. Good Luck!

It seems that many boxers are prone to allergies, especially to bees and insect bites. My two have had several episodes of hives, swelling, even anaphylactic shock. I'm thinking that part of this may be because their fur is so short and they are more easily stung or bitten, however, most of the time my dogs just eat the bees so that theory doesn't apply here. I've had other breeds before my boxers and never had allergic reactions but then, they had lots of fur to protect them from stings (Golden Retreiver and Shepherd/Husky mix).
