Hi all. I am Paulo, the proud owner of a female boxer, Duffy. Only today I decided to register here although I've been browsing thru this site for a long time. It is so nice to read usefull info coming from people with so many diverse experiences and backgrounds with their dogs!

Duffy is 5 months now and is a wonderfull dog. She is ALWAYS in the mood to play and well... if you are not she will put you in playing mood immediately! She is also a very good company.

Her problems? Hmmm, only two and that perhaps my fault even if she is getting better on both. The first. She steals all she can from my kitchen. Things are improving but she still steals from time to time. Sometimes the face she puts when looking at me after hearing a strong NO! can only make me laugh! Her other problem is when she shuts off her hears. This happens when she is doing something naughty and I call her. She simply forgets who I am... and that when I say come she is really supposed to come!

On the other hand I love her greeting me when I arrive home after leaving her for a couple hours. It is very rare that I leave her given that I am favouring going everywhere with her rather than leaving her at home alone. It is good to notice that she more or less behaves in public places, be it a train or a public park. She is quite a good company, indeed! And lots of fun!

HI Paulo,

Hello,
Welcome! I also have a 5 months old Boxer. You can see his pisture on this site on the day I bought him (he was two months). His name is Charlie. I have read that Boxers are banned in Portugal. Is that true?

Boxers banned in Portugal: NOT

Hi Benoit, thank you for your reply.

No, boxers are not banned in Portugal, at all. They are not even part of the potentially dangerous dogs legislation.

In legal terms you can have a boxer the same way as you can have a péquinois or a german shepperd or a collie.

In Portugal there are no banned dogs. What we have is the Dangerous and Potentially Dangerous Animals act, since last May, which schedules specific conditions for a citizen to own a dog included in the potentially dangerous dogs' list. These are the brazilian dog, argentinian dogue, pit bull terrier, rotweiller, american staffordshire terrier, staffordshire bull terrier and tosa inu. You can have a dog from any of these breeds. However you must comply with specific requirements regarding housing, safety, insurance and the owner must have a clean criminal record.

Other than the above there are no restrictions to any type of dog in Portugal.

PMdc- Oi!

Welcome to BW. I just got a new boxer puppy, also. She will be 3 months on Oct 28th. She's so much fun. Glad you're enjoying Duffy!

My mother's side of the family is from the Azores. I was there in 2001- so fun! We also spent some time visiting Lisbon. It's so beautiful! My Dad's side of the family is from Brazil and so we go there often as well.

Take care!

Welcome!

My family is originally from Portugal, they haven't been back in decades, what part are you from, we have family in Sao Miguel (sp). We live near Boston on Cape Cod. We have two little girls Roxie is 12 and Maya is 4, they have changed our lives forever, for the better of course, I can't imagine living without them. We did loose our Male 10 months ago, still cry everyday :(
you'll love this sight, Iv'e learned so much, everyone is just so wonderful and helpful! Keep us posted and good luck!!!

Hi and Welcome to Boxerworld. All the reasons listed under that act are what every place should have instead of banning a certain breed of dog, Rather they should police the type of people who own that type of dog and what there reasons for owning that type of dog are. Love it!
