Hi everyone!
I am new here. I have an 8yr old Boxer named Madison or Maddie for short. We've had her ever since she was a puppy and love her so much. I've owned several dogs in my lifetime and I just love the Boxer look and personality.
At the same time we got Maddie we had gotten a Pit Bull "Kozmo" as well. They grew up to be the best of friends and were always giving us so much love. In Feb of this year we lost Kozmo to liver shunts, kidney disease and stones. Since then Madison has been a little bit lonely for another doggie friend.
We also have 4 children ages 6, 4.5, 2.5, & 16 months. Madison & Kozmo always acted like a mother and father to the kids. I'm so thankful they had 2 great protectors!
3 weeks ago I found a lump on Madison's front left leg. The vet aspirated it and found round cells and few granuales so she wanted to take it off as soon as possible. On July 12 she did the surgery to remove the lump from Madison's leg. We got the results back this past Monday. It is a malignant neurofibrosarcoma. Unfortunately the vet couldn't get all of the tumor out as all of the margins except for one focus was clean. The one focus still remains with cancer cells. This type of tumor is a nerve sheath tumor so the possibilities for it to spread is high. The lab never did grade it which surprised me as that would have been able to tell us a lot on how aggressive the tumor was. The vet said they tend to be more locally invasive but all sarcoma's can mastesize. So for the moment we are in a waiting pattern to see when the tumor will come back and how fast. Our next step would be amputation as this type of tumor is not sensitive to chemo or radiation. I'm a little leary of doing that as Madison loves to run and play football or with any other ball in fact. She did injure her knees 2.5 yrs ago which has now left her with arthritis in both knees. I'm a little concerned wether or not she could handle an amputation of the front limb with week knees.
But for know I'm going to be spending and loving every minute I have with her. It is hard to think we may be loosing another child soo soon. We are still grieving Kozmo and I think we always will.
