My husband and I have adopted a female boxer (Kyllian) about a year ago. She is great! But with my husband deployed and me still learning about dogs, we do have our interesting moments.... I got to the site while trying to figure out why her paws are so itchy. I changed her from Nutro - which has corn something, wheat something.... To Wellness fish and potatoes. We will see if that does the trick for us. I don't think she is outside long enough to have ant issues and I've turned her upside down and see nothing on her - just little bumps and such like the ones described in the allergy portion of nutrition here. The vet thinks it's worth a shot. If that doesn't do it we will have to go for a thorough allergy exam....

Hi and welcome to BW from Deeg and I in Oregon. Good luck with solving your baby's itchy paws. I feed my boy, Deeg, Solid Gold products. I tried to switch one time to another product but he developed foul bad breath...so back to Solid Gold I went.

Sounds like you have a great vet. When Tae developed itchy paws in March (actually, it was Dec 2004, but she was initially diagnosed with seasonal allergies), my vet tried to sell me the $$ prescription stuff. He also offered me allergy testing at the bargain price of $300.

I did what you have done--stopped all yummies (Old Mother Hubbard treats in Tae's situation), changed her kibble, and gave her no "extras." After about 6 weeks on California Natural, she stopped licking her paws! I'm convinced she's allergic to wheat flour and that's what was in her treats.
