Hi -

We've been a member for awhile, but forgot to introduce ourselves. We recently moved to Interior Alaska and have 2 beautiful boxers. Grace is a flashy brindle and is 1.5 yrs old - she's our baby and certainly likes to act it! We've had her since she was 8 weeks and we've thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow. Tyson is fawn w/ black mask and is 2.5 yrs old. He is a new addition to our family (we adopted him a few months ago) and is a wonderful companion for Grace. It's amazing how quickly he became a member of our family and we know he truly loves us as much as we love him! They are our children and the center of our lives!

Welcome to BW,

I was born and raised in Anchorage. Still have a longing for Alaska. :)

thanks for all the welcomes...it's going to be very interesting to see how they handle the winter...Grace HATES booties (when it gets cold enough she'll have to wear them) and doesn't care a whole lot for snow. I wish they had an indoor dog park so they could romp and play!

Welcome to BW. I joined several months ago and have really found some great information here. I spent a bunch of years in Alaska and 2 years in Fairbanks and miss it very much!!

Did you have any Boxers when you lived in Fairbanks? I am very interested to see how these two will handle the winter? We are about 100 miles south of Fairbanks and of course we do all our shopping there.

We did not have a Boxer at that time but did have 2 labs. I have been to Ft Greeley and can tell you that the weather there can be more extreme at times than in Fairbanks. You definitely don't want to allow your pups outside for extended periods during the cold times there and even in the heat of the summer temperatures can reach to levels that are unsafe to allow Boxers to be outside for extended periods of time. We actually put felt booties and a jacket on our dogs when the temps dropped below zero. I hope you and your family enjoy your time in Alaska. Out of all the areas I lived in Alaska, Fairbanks and North Pole were my favorite. The people were great and quality of living was good as well. The only thing I never got used to in Fairbanks was the lack of long periods of daylight during the middle of winter.
