Hey everybody,

I just adopted my first fawn boxer about a week ago and i love her. I have a few questions on some things that might help me with dealing with Ginger.

1) She is absolutely terrible at playing and or play just fetch haha, she is hilarious watching sometimes but i would maybe like to join, so my question is there any way i can teach her to play/ fetch with me?

2) Another question i have is maybe a little weirder and i might just attribute this to her being so new to the house but she is sooo unfocused while walking. when she is walking normally shes a great with her lead but thats maybe for a minute or so and being so unfocused she never goes the bathroom, never. I mean she goes the bathroom sometimes in our yard. But i would like her to go while walking so i dont have to constantly watch her in our yard. any thoughts?

3) and last thought maybe isnt so simple...she has very bad boxer anxiety , i have to go to work so i have to crate her but she is very quite because she is a verrry good dog but she is desperately trying to escape the crate like bent bars and everything...its a good crate soo i dont see her getting out but i dont want her to hurt herself.. i have read somethings to try like tons of toys, t shirt near her, music or noise, but does any one have other ideas

thanks for reading =)

I have an 8 month old and what I do is give him a ball or rubber chew toy in his crate, but nothing that will harm him. Also I leave the radio on...it seems he likes the oldies..lol...hope that helps...good luck

How old is Ginger? Charlie never actually played fetch until he was almost 2 lol. he would chase the ball or frizbe but he wouldnt bring it back and he would either drop it and move on or he would wrestle with it by himself. hehe.

As for the walking and going potty/ not going potty, are you walking her somewhere new every time? or the same place? Again this could attribute to her age as well. If you are walking her somewhere new every time or frequently, dont, walk her in the same place every time. Also, is it a sidewalk? is there a grassy area or either side? I know that some dogs are very picky about where they potty. Maybe she needs you to direct her while on the walks, stop in grassy areas and ask her to go potty, let her sniff around. Sometimes its hard for them to stop on their own because they are walking and you are walking and they think that is what they are there for, just walking.

Crating, is great if your boxer likes it. I can't even get charlie in a crate so he stays out free roaming the house, he does perfectly fine. What does she have in her crate? Does she have a little bed in there? Toys? Treats? You need to make it as "homey" as possible for her that way she feels safe in there and comfortable.

Good luck!! :)

Good ideas

Thanks for the quick reply guys, and im sorry i totally forgot the age she is 14-15 months old now. But yes i see the same things @CrazyCharlie its hilarious to watch her try to carry a ball and then lose it only to chase it and hit it farther i will admit but not very productive haha.

i try to walk her the same path every single day to make it more comfortable for her. but it all seems so new to her. She will sniff the heck out of everything haha. there is not grass on both sides but there grass on one always. and i do make my way through a park. i try to make it through some grass at least 2 times to make her feel alright about peeing anywhere. i try to say things like "go potty" to help her associate that with going the bathroom but nothing yet

The toys i currently have for her crate are a couple rope like toys, kong that i fill with peanut butter , and a ton of bones haha

But like i guess is a repeating theme is repetition (excuse the bad pun haha), shes still new so i feel like if i keep taking her down the same path, crate her up consistently and keep playing fetch she might get it haha

One of my dog would never play fetch, no matter how much we would try to play with him, the best what he would do just bring the toy once and walked away. He enjoys hide-and-seek game. My other dog loves playing fetch, but when she was smaller, she wanted to get the toy and start to chew on it instead of bring it back.Boxers are not retrievers! She does not like hide-and-seek game. It seems to me that she does not get it. And with walking and bathrooms: my boy would couple times while we walking, my girl would never go, she is always waiting to go back and go to the bathroom at the backyard. They all are very different, just like people!

hehe, Yeah its great they come up with their own game. :)

Good, I am glad you are using the same path, that will help a lot. I know that Charlie LOVES his privacy with he goes potty so he will hold out for a long time until he finds a place he really wants to go. Our mutt Jersey HATES going potty, its a serious inconvenience for her. lol She has much more important things to be doing, like biting Charlie, chasing butterflies, chewing tennis balls etc. hehe. I think she will get there, with enough practice :)

Speaking of playing.... Charlie is putting his slobbery face in my lap, guess its time to go on a trip to the Dog Park :)
