He's barking so much that he's hoarse!

Hope someone can help me out here...

Dugan barks for a little while (10 min. or so) when he first goes into his crate at night and maybe once or twice during the night for a few minutes. We ignore him of course. Well we noticed the other night that he was trying to bark but couldn't! He is crated during the day (except for lunchtime potty break for an hour or so)...and he must be barking ALOT during the day if he has lost his voice! Has anybody else had this problem??? We have no idea what to do.. We leave a stuffed Kong in the crate to occupy him.. what else can we do???? I don't want him to bark so much that he permanent damages his vocal cords!

sounds like a bit of anxiety. try leaving the tv on for some background noise & leave something with your scent on it (old t.shirt) in the crate for comfort.

check out SoundsScary.com for their soothing sounds stuff - worth a look. their scary sounds cd has been working a treat for my dog with its fireworks noises as we have firework night approaching.
