Hershey has been with us since she was 8 weeks old, she was 10.5 years old yesterday when we had to help her cross the rainbow bridge.

She was having a very hard time getting around lately, as well as many other geriatric health issues. I could see it was taking a lot effort for her just to go outside to go potty. We just moved into a new house from another state only a few short weeks ago and I fear the whole experience may have caused her so much stress and caused her health to get even worse.

Two days ago when I came home I found Hershey unable to move on the den floor. Her whole right side seemed completely paralyzed and stiff I believe she had a stroke. She was terrified I could see it in her eyes. I knew the time had come to end her pain and suffering and for her to go and play with her mate Striker who has been waiting for her at the bridge for 3 years now.

The soonest I could arrange for a mobile vet to come was the following evening. I regret now having waited even that much longer but she had such an overwhelming fear of the vets office I wanted her to be at home with her family to ease her fears. She had an awful night. I was hoping she would pass on her own. She had many seizures and convulsions through out the night and eventually slipped into a coma but her heart was not giving up. The vet came (she never did regain consciousness) and ended my Hershey Girls precious life.

I know she is in a better place without pain and suffering, but oh what an enormous void she has left in my heart. She really was my best girl friend I told her this all the time. She would follow me from room to room even the bathroom right up til the very end even though it took so much energy and effort she was always a mommies girl. Ten and half years was not long enough. Death will not part our love connection. She will be with me til my end.

My love, you will have my heart always. You are the one. Wait for Mommy at the bridge with your happy tail and wet kisses. I love you my dear "Hershey Girl" Mommy"

I am so terribly sorry of your loss, but I do admire your courage to end her pain and suffering. You gave her an amazing gift of love. She is now pain free and running happily and healthy at the bridge. She had a wonderful life with you and I hope you will take comfort in that. I send you lots of ((HUGS)). Hershey will always look down on you with a huge smile on her smooshy face thanking you for her wonderful life and ending her pain and suffering. Nothing I can say or do will ease the pain in your heart right now, but I am very sorry for your loss of your beloved girl. May she run swiftly and pain-free now at the Bridge with those who went before her. She will be there for you, waiting patiently, when it is your time. Take comfort in knowing that.
