i called my vet and told him that taz was no different and he basically said there is nothing more he can do, so i took him to another vet last nite to get a second opinion. she also has no clue what to do for him or why he is the way he is, except for the possibility of a brain tumor. i pretty much resided myself to the fact that i must put him down, i cant stand to see him the way he is anymore. it just amazes me that no one can find whats wrong with him.
i pray for a miracle everyday....
just one question...the vet suggested high doses of steroids. she said that she had seen some dogs who were on their death bed come out of it with the steroids...does anyone know of this or hear of the results of a dog on steroids. i would appreciate any reply in regards to this. im wondering if it would even be worth it.
to everyone who gave me suggestions, i am very grateful for your concern and input...i did ask the vet about all the things that were suggested to me on this post but they pretty much ruled all those things out. all blood work came back ok (including the lymes test)...
i''ve been trying to avoid this decision, but i feel at this point i have no other options, its the not knowing that makes it soooo much harder.
thanks again for all your caring..and for allowing me to ramble on about my boy.
i will continue to look for another boxer(maybe several)they are the best dogs!!

Sorry for Titus

I don't know about your particular problem but we had a boxer mix with cancer at the age of two. We treated her with steroids and she was able to live a relatively normal life until she was 7, of course she was only on the steroids for a couple of months at a time and only maybe three or four times in that time span. I hate it that you can't come up with a reason for his problems, my heart aches for you, I know how bad this feels. :(

Until your baby is checked out at a veterinary teaching institute where they have all of the equipment that regular vet's can't afford (MRI, CT Scan etc.), you may never know what's wrong. They always have animal neurologists on staff who will be able to nail down an answer 99% of the time. The cost is usually between 1500.00 and 3500.00. That's the problem. A lot of us don't have that kind of money to spend. If you do have that kind of money and really want an answer, find a vet college. Good luck!

Oh I'm so sorry to read aboutyour babys health issues.. I can relate cause our boy Riley has sure has had his share of them too.. I know how much we love our pets and would do anything to help them.. but like one of the previous post from John and Edith.. health care for our pets is pretty$$$
I agree that maybe you could check out a Nero Vet who has all the right equipment to search for things a normal Vets office can not..although the cost for these specialist are very high .. My friend had a problem with her dog he lost all use of his back legs all of sudden while chasing a ball and found out he had a stroke and so they went to this dog nerologist which she was told would cost about $3000 for his treatment but happy to say that now he is doing great she told me of this service that she found which helped her pay for the cost without putting it on one of her normal credit cards... it is called Care Credit

Care credit.. it is like a credit card that allows you to finance 100% of the treatment costs.. because I know that health care for our pets can reallly add up.. Its available on line to check it out at "Care credit dot com" ALTHOUGH YOU DON'T SPELL THE DOT PART. Not sure if this info will help or not... just thought if you needed to go to a specialist but was worried about the cost that this might help a little bit.. I never heard of it until my friend told me about it. so thought I'd share.. I wish the best for you and Taz..
