Yesterday I noticed that our boxer, Burke, has a hemmorhoid. He is licking at it a little bit. Has anyone else had a dog with a hemmorhoid? If so, did you take him/her to the vet and/or do a home treatment? Thanks!

Delilah appeared to have the same thing about 8 weeks ago. I do not promote NOT taking our dogs to the vet, however, I don't rush them with each condition either. Use your best judgment is what I am saying. When I noticed that Delilah had this problem, I started rethinking her diet. I made sure she was getting enough fresh water and I fed her foods to soften up her stools just a bit. It worked for me. The problem has not reappeared. If it had continued, I would have taken her to the vet.

Good luck...and I am looking forward to other's comments.

What you are seeing is probably an impacted anal gland. Lacy had this problem before and it has required a visit to the vet to have the anal gland expressed and then a course of antibiotics. The last time Lacy had an anal gland problem it ended up splitting open and draining even though she was on an antibiotic. I would suggest a visit to the vet before it gets worse.

Thank you for your help. Burke and I just got back from the vet. He isn't sure exactly what it is but he knows it is not a hemmorhoid. He is treating it with antiobiotic spray and if it does not improve it may need to be removed because he is worried it is a tumor. I am glad I took him in. All three (now we have 2) of our boxers have had tumors removed and if that is what Burke has I am glad that we are catching it early.
