Butchie's mom- Britnee is the fawn with the black mask and cropped ears in my gallery, also in my Avatar. I am glad things happened the way they did with Brit because I didn't have time to think before things happened. I am glad I got to hold her and be with her when she passed, if anything could make me feel better touching her and letting her go in my arms was the best.

When it gets to the major organs (where this type of cancer likes to thrive) there is a very poor prognosis. The major places it grows are the spleen & heart but can be anywhere since it is a blood cancer. Most dogs get it in the spleen. I haven't read anywhere about males getting it more than females. My one year-old male brindle is at the vet right now getting biopsies on numerous tumors that appeared overnight too. I am brand new to this site, I just registered on the 15th. Last week we noticed a lump under his coat wich I thought might be hives or some kind of allergy, I gave him benadryll thinking it would go down cause he is so healthy and boisterous I cant imgine him being sick. But yesterday I noticed not only did that lump get bigger, but had opened up and he had about 5 or six more up and down his hind legs. I immediately took him to the vet and thats when they informed me this might be cancer and an agressive cancer. I am so distraught, he turned one on August 23, and he is just my pride and joy. I love him so much, I can sympathize with all of you, but I was told that it may not be worth it to forgo chemo. We are expecting a baby in April, we have another pup at home, I just want whats best for him and him to be ok somehow.

I am so sorry to hear about Butch - I know how difficult this news is to deal with. I lost my Frank last year to this cancer. He had a tumour on his bladder which was discovered last Christmas. The tumour was removed and he had a good life until October. Two days before we lost him he played in the sea with a 6 month old puppy.

Frank did not have chemo we just had to watch out for grogginess, pale gums and a cold mouth when he used to get a bleed. The vets were able to give him an injection which helped. Once we got the terrible news we just let him do whatever he wanted - whether that was playing, sleeping, lying in the warm (usually on my bed) or walking he chose.

I took great comfort from someone who said you know what is wrong but dogs don't.

My thoughts are with you and Butch.

Butch just finished chemo

on Tuesday. It took 77 days to go through 3 cycles of treatment and he did darn good. He has handled it very well and looks well.
He goes back in 6 months for blood work. Now we just build him back up to normal and pray. Everyone at the vet's office told us what a good dog he was every week when he was there. He never ceases to amaze me by the effect he has on people. Thanks for thinking of us.

Sally...thank you for the update. Glad to hear Butch is doing well, chemo is such a tough thing for anyone to go thru. Poor baby, give him a big kiss from my Fritzi :)
