help with potty training - getting desperate

Oh, a pee pad would last about 6 seconds in Rubens crate and he would be pooping it out for days..

IMO, potty training is ALL about watching your dogs signals. This might sound gross but Ruben little bootyhole used to pucker out when he had to go poo so I made sure I got him outside ASAP. Just put them outside as much as possible and praise him when he potties. I also said "Go potty" every time he relieved himself and he will potty on command now (which is great if you are traveling with them). You pup is still young and it will just take more time. Like someone else said it's really up to us, not them, they can't let themselves out.

Patience and being consistant. Yogi is almost 11mths and is great with potty. He never goes inside and asks for the door all the time.
If you do have an accident you can say no but make sure you catch your pup in the act. Otherwise they get confused as to why they are being scolded.
But when we 1st got him we watched him like a hawk. The second he started sniffing around he was outside with treats in our hands just in case he did go. Also 1/2 hr or so after eating and drinking.....we also told him to go pee or poo. He got the hang of it really fast. Now I tell him to go pee and he goes as soon as he hits the grass. But we got him in November and he hated the cold weather so he went so fast. He would even poop in the middle of the road.
He had accidents in his crate but in time they went away. Praise---boxers just adore it. They are wonderful dogs--so loving.

haha.....oh, I remember the frustration, and it is actually still happening every so often as Millie is just 6 months. The best advice I got was to consider it as becoming a habit. As annoying as it can be to take them out constantly, they will eventually learn that that is where to go, just as we know to use the toilet. It's not like we even think about using teh toilet, or consider anywhere else, it has just become habit. If they make a mistake, just clean it up and go on about your business, and then try to take your pup out more often and give praise when they go in the right place.
It is all about time. Millie has started to stand by the door, even though we still try to take her out when it is convenient for us, as we don't want to be ruled by HER schedule!
Yes, make the crate as small as possible. Seems cruel, but we only had one accident.
