Boxer Pal
My 9 month old female boxer has recently come down with hives. Our local vet has no idea what to do. they have never encountered hive in boxers. Anyway we have been giving her Benadryl to help with the breakouts. If we medicate her every 4 hours she only breaks out a little. Our vet suggested medicating her every 5 hours and to moniter her food and outside activity. We are at a loss! I don't like giving her so many meds. Has anyone encountered this with their boxer? I sure could use some encouragement!

boxer hives

my boxer has gotten hives every summer since I've had her. if they get really bad the vet can give her a shot. but usually i just give her 1 Benadryl Dye Free Liquid Gel Cap every morning and then again around 5 when she eats next. this seems to help alot. I'm not really sure what she is allergic to but it only seems to happen at the beginning of the summer.

Rocco has taken a lot of Benadryl in his life and has no side effects. He usually breaks out with hives every summer and fall. Just make sure it's not S-Mange which looks just like hives. Rocco picked it up from a mangey old fox that was hanging around our house one fall and it took a month to realize it was mange and not hives. He received a set of injections which cleared it up, but it was a nightmare for a while.

I've given Benadryl to Rocky also on several occassions... Dont worry, just make sure you are giving the right dosage and waiting long enough between treatments.... I was told for my 80 pounder to give 1mg / pound.. I give the clear one *dye free*... and I wait 8 hours before giving another dose... if it's hives it should clear up...

best of luck, keep us posted on your furbaby...
