Well, it's finally nice out, and this means the bugs are out full force. So, poor Iggy is being attacked by the mosquitoes and blackflies. I feel so awful for him; every little bite he has shows up as a huge welt, and it looks so bad. He's been running around the house, rubbing up against furniture. Does anybody have a suggestion for a product that could keep bugs from attacking him so much, or something that can relieve the itchiness?

I've been wondering the same thing because we live in West Nile territory and I want to try and keep as many mosquitos off of Lily as possible.

Has anyone tried K-9 Advantix? I saw the cutest commecial on it but cannot find it anywhere nor do I know if it works.

The topical flea and tick treatment that I use also works for mosquitos, we don't really have a bad fly problem here, so I can't really suggest anything for that short of the fly sprays you can buy, you have to reapply it often and I think it would maybe irritate the skin if used too much. You can always give benadryl for the itchies! When I lived in Michigan and the flies on the beach were so horrible, we would use skin-so-soft (Avon makes it). We used it on our horses too. I am curious if it would be ok for dogs? I hope you can find something that works for him.

I picked up a product called Pet Guard at my vet last week. I had a number of people reccomend it to me, but I have not tried it yet since the skeets haven't been out much--YET. I will let you know how it works. Oh, and it has sunscreen in it too, an added plus for those who have white or even flashy boxers.

A co-worker of mine uses the Skin-so-soft on their dogs, but wasn't that stuff real heavy and greasy feeling? I wonder if you wrote the company if they'd tell you one way or another.

We have a fly spray that I'd gotten last year b/c the flies just love to sit and bite on Titan, leaving big knots on him. I haven't really looked for anything yet this year because haven't seen many flies yet. Guess I should keep my eyes open and be prepared though.

We live in Minnesota, where the mosquito is our state bird. We head up to the lake almost every weekend and have delt with those pesty mosquitos and those darn bitting black flies. I use a dog spray called "Pre Strike". It works pretty good and even comes in a people version that we use. I found it at Petco.

Reno use to break out with hives everytime he was bitten by a mosquito. This spray and benedryl have been a "lake" saver.

Good luck with your pup.

K-9 Advantix

I live in the south and the mosquito is our state bird here. I got the k-9 Advantix from my vet and it works great! It has been raining here for two weeks and the bugs are awful. My skin-kids got bit all over one afternoon that hubby forgot to spary them before they went out to play, but Trip has yet to get a bug bite.
