Hi, We have a female boxer that will be 1 year old 9/21...she listens very well to all her commands, however, the last few months she has been chewing anything and everything she can get a hold of...also, pooping all over the place..she was crate trained and that was going good but then it got too hot during the summer and we felt bad...for a while she was doing well, maybe 1 or 2 accidents which we understand. We are gone for work a long time but these past few months it has been horrible (keep in mind I am also 5 months pregnant..although we already have a 12 year old in the house)..we are wondering if maybe she is reacting to that knowing how smart animals are. Now that it is getting cooler around the Boston area we are probably going to start using the crate again..any thought?

I have heard that pups go through a teenage period where their behaviour sort of goes off the rails for a few months and you have to work extra hard at training for a while. Maybe this is what you are experiencing? Sounds like it might be time to go back to potty training 101 and reinforcing other commands like she was a puppy.

Boxers are like children, I know if I was to leave Rebel out in the house while I was gone he would have a hay day, beacuse they get so mad that you left them behind. Keep the crate in a cool place and put her in there while you are gone, She should not have the run of the place at that age yet. they are ok in the crate for about 6 hr.
good luck

This is just my two cents....but Herkie at 4yrs old has now just finally started to mature....but at least up until he was 3....he had digressive periods where he acted like a pup or teen....tearing up everything he could get his mouth on!And as mischievous as his nature is...I still wouldn't even consider leaving him uncrated while I am at work, he may do fine...but I just fear that I would come home to a destroyed home!So you may want to reconsider crating again...it is a wonderful housebreaking tool....and it also keeps them safe.Just try and work with her a little more on it...and I am sure you'll see some improvement.Good Luck.

thanks for the suggestions...Maggie is back in her crate during the day, my son lets her out when he gets home from school...she won't go to the bathroom in there and at least we know she is safe....after I sent the message we came home to a eaten power cord that was live...never want to come home to a dead Maggie or a house that has been burnt down with all of our pets in there...
