Boxer Pal
Hello!

I have a two year old male, fawn boxer, that I adopted from the pound about 8 months ago. He is great around the house but whenever anyone in the household takes him outside to play or relieve himself he takes off, not only that, when we call him back he stops, turns, and then looks at us as if he was laughing, then continues to run off. Is there anything that I can do to train him to not do this? we have a large yard, but no fence.

Any help would be most grateful!!!

Well, for now you have got to put him on a leash whenever you take him out. Get a 26' Flexi lead, they are great. Let him go to the end and recall him. Use a cookie if you have to, Boxers love rewards. If he hesitates, give him a quick pull on the leash and recall him again. When he comes, tell him good boy and give him a treat. Do this many times a day and even when you are pottying him. Eventually he will start coming back to you but he has to be trained.

Good luck!

Hello and Welcome to the boards!:D

Congratulations for adopting! What is your Boxers name? Do you have any pics to share?

Have you shown him his boundaries?

On a daily basis, walk him on a leash around the perimeter of your yard. When you get to the edge, have him sit, and treat him. Continue this until he learns just how far he is allowed to go. In the meantime, keep him on a leash at all times, unless of course, you are able to fence your yard.
