Boxer Pal
My five and a half month puppy started to yak in the house this morning. We quickly sent her outside. When we checked on her a moment later, she was having trouble standing up! She started to roll down the hill. After a couple of tries, she walked right back into the house and seemed pretty normal. About the only unusual thing she did, was to not gulp her water like usual. We're pretty concerned, though. Could she have choked during the yakking and passed out? This is the first time she's yakked in a long time. I admit, I am late on her heart worm medicine. It totally skipped my mind. I know--bad mommy! I just remembered because of things this morning. I'm just over ten days late.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! We're really concerned.

It is quite possible that she was choking on something that obstructed her airway, causing her to pass out, or nearly pass out. Call your vet, and keep her under close observation.

It sounds quite scary. Your vet should be able to give advice over the phone as to whether or not she should be seen.

Ten days late on heartworm pills should not cause this type of problem. It takes a long time for heartworms to develop and multiply before any symptoms are noticed.

Take a deep breath, try to relax. A call to your vet will probably put your mind at ease.

I don't know what might have caused it but I think if you are worried you should at least call the vet and see what they say. My Caesar chokes on water he is gulping all the time and has never passed out in his 11 years. Often the first sign of a heart problem can be a fainting spell. I hope your sweetie is feeling better.
