help please..excessive drooling and other probs

Sam started drooling excessively and had some diahrrea late this morning. He had been inside and I couldn't find anything that he had gotten into and eaten. I called the vet, they said if he is still having symptoms by 2:00 then I should bring him in. Also he wont let me touch his mouth...I tried to check his gums and he almost bit me (which is very strange for him) and wouldn't let me near his mouth again. Does anyone have ANY idea what could be wrong??? Iam planning on taking him in to the vet but would appreciate any input or similar experiences. Thanks.

Oh, and the drooling has gotten much better.

The fact that he is so sensitve around the mouth area seems to indicate that there is something wrong. It might be a good idea to take him to the vet.

Markus was excessively drooling once and it turned out he had tonsilitis.

I agree with Jan. Could be nothing but then again it could be something. I once saw a dog get a fish hook stuck in its mouth and it was horrible to see. Even though we try to dog proof our homes as much as possible there is always something that they can pick up. Nail clippers, coins, golf ball, just whatever. All of these I am constantly picking up because someone leaves them laying around and could do harm.

Another thought that has occured to me is that it could be a tooth ache.

Have you taken him to the vet?

I think he must have eaten something he shouldn't have although I have no idea what it was. Yesterday afternoon he was just fine, no more drooling and normal poops.Thanks for the ideas...I am going to be keeping a close eye on him today to make sure he is okay.

Glad to hear he is back to normal.

It might be a good idea to spend some time handling his teeth and gums. That way he will be more likely to let you next time he has issues with something.
