Is there anything I can give Dakota for arthritis? My husband says to give her an aspirin but I am not sure about it. Any advice will be helpful!

no asprin

asprin is not good to give your dog long term it can cause ulcers and bleeding problems. You can ask yoour vet about rimadyl ( I know a binch of people are going to say how bad rimadyl is , but if your vet does blood wrok every 6 months to moniter organ function their should be know problem using rimadyl long term) you can also ask about metacam, it is also an antiinflammatory works a little different than Rimadly but I have seen a lot of animals do very weell on it. Your best bit either way is to start a glucosimine chondroitin their are so many so ask your vet which is best for your dog.

I would try the glucosamine before giving the drugs. Also don't let Dakota lay outside or on anything cold. That will make it worse.

O.k. I have great stuff for that....when my boy was a puppy he fell down our bonus room stairs(we kick ourselves today for not keeping the door closed) and had to have surgery on his leg....he limped due to on-set of arthritis and the vet said to give him glucosamine anyhow, I got this magazine in the mail, called springtime health....all natural.....I asked my vet before I got it and he said it didn't look like anything in them was dangerous....long story short, my boy has not had any problem since.....he is doing great! When he was doing better, I stopped getting them and he began to limp again....A friend at work had an eldery dog with arthritis and I referred her and she said her dog was up and around chasing their cat..... go to www.springtimehealth.inc for more information....I feed my boy one tablet of joint health and fresh factors each a day....it seems only the combination of both works for him....worth a shot and better than the arthritis shots they offer at the vet....

Arthritis

We use glucosamine/chondroitin and MSM. MSM is something also given to horses. You can get in in pill form and my doctor says it is not toxic. People with arthritis can take up to 9,000 mg per day. We only give our guys 1 pill per day of each. It really helped our 13 year old female and our 12 year old male. You would have never known they had any problems. I highly recommend it. Also, our vet recommends vitimin C every day to help prevent cancer.

Both MSM and Glucosamine/Chondroitin can be found at Sam's Club, Wal-Mart and most pharmacies. We have found that Sam's club is less expensive.

Good luck. Asperin may help, but it can be hard on their tummys. Our vet told us to give a tagamet (ulcer med) along with the aspirin.

You should ask your vet if he agrees.
