Help not sure what to do here

I would go over there and casually let them know that if they're dog becomes too much of a burden for them that you would be glad to take him, or even buy him if that's an option for you. Or maybe offer to walk him with your dogs or come over to play with your pups. Who knows they may let you, of course if they already think you may steal him they probably would not be interested. In the meantime keep harrassing animal control, its possible if you could get them to go check out the situation it might be worse then you think in the garage (is it air conditioned?) and they will take some action.

I'd say go over to the house and confront them. Maybe take your baby with and let them know that that is NOT the way that any dog should be treated, and see what they say about it. If they're ignorant, then make a plan to get the dog out of there. Cut the chain or something. IF they call the cops, they call the cops. But at least the dog won't be living there anymore.

I am An animal Control officer in Illinois and The fact that the dog has food, water and shelter kinda puts the matter out of there hands, however if this was going on inmy county i would at least go look at the situation if for no other reason to educate the owner. What you need to do is call your local Humane society. As far as the law is concerned these people are in charge of humane treatment. The woman in my county is awsome and she would be all over that, to get animal control out there tall them you dont think the dog has had any rabies shots! they HAVE to act on this, and if the officer is worth a damn he'll Have a talk with the owner about caring for that baby! I don't understand why people like this even get a dog. Having a dog is not mandatory, if you don't love the company of dogs, why would you get one? I just don't get it! They should receive a LARGE fine for this, lose their dog and not be allowed to have an animal again.

Why do people like this continue to get dogs!! It boils my blood to think of that little cutie wiggling away when she sees people and then getting no attention. That would just kill my Layla, she loves to socialize. I picture her in this little angels place. Why oh Why do people want dogs when they don't take proper care of them!! Breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes. Its one thing to provide shelter and food, but a dog needs attention and love! I can't stop thinking about her little personality and soul being crushed by these creeps...

I was wondering to animal control officer, wouldn't I get in trouble for making a false call if they have given this dog a rabies shot?? I am not sure what has been done to this dog. They may have or not. I know you have to give your name also, does this remain anaynomous(sorry not spelled right) or is there a way for them to find out who I am and cause trouble for me. They are not nice people. I am doing the letter thing and would call for rabies stuff just don't want to get in trouble for a false call if they have done this already. Our county is bad for caring for animals. Sounds like I need to live in your area. I appreciate your advice it is nice to hear from an animal control officer on specifics.

I think what is most sad about this case and others like it is the fact that animal control officers have so little recourse in dealing with people who are irresponsible dog owners. In this country, unfortunately, most municipalities see dogs, cats, etc., the same way they see livestock: as animals that need only food, water and shelter and nothing more.

We ALL know that is far from the truth, and a dog that is so ill cared for and never socialized is the same one that will one day attack someone. And then it will be those people's fault, not the dog's. No one would argue that a child is well cared for if he or she gets fed and put in a playpen all day with no one to talk to or play with. A dog is no different.

What needs to happen is we need to effect change in the laws regulating pet ownership.

As far as a false report, dail *69 to block caller id, Illinois law does not require you leave a name and most of the time i dont really care if there is a name left. You do run into situations where you people just don't like other people in there subdivison and do any thing to cause problems, that just comes witht he job! I am in no way saying that about you!! I want to help thsi baby boxer! Just call tell them that these people are poor pet owners and you would like to make sure the dog is vac for rabies! It really shoulf be that simple! Have you tried the humane society thing, or aspca? As far as laws that prohibit pet ownership, you guys dont know the half of it!! Illinois law says that if you have 4 or more breedable females you need a kennel lisc, however if you have 3 females and 2000 male dogs that is ok! Now there are some minor things that we can do but if they have food, water, shelter and are up to date on shots, our hands are kinda tied. It is more frustrating than i can explainI also like the iea of just telling this person that your a boxer lover and would like to set up a walking schedule, bottom line we are trying to make a better life for the dog! I know this my not be possible but worth a try!

Thank you, I thought about helping this dog by other means, but I having trouble because when I am at home they are at home. I tried to get to the dog but they saw me and came outside. I wish I knew someone who would be able to do it during the day. Actually they close their garage during the day and the dog is in there but you can't get to it without opening the door and too many people are at home to do this. I have tried while I am at home to get closer to this dog but too many people know me and if they see me take this dog they will know who to go too.

Be very careful. As much as this kind of thing burns me up, you could get arrested for breaking and entering, larcony, and grand larcony depending on the cost value of the poor thing. Then who would be loving on your babies while your possibly in jail?
I feel for him, but maybe the brochures will help. If not, tell animal control he's locked in a unventilated garage and you dont think he's had his yearly rabies. And then, if all else fails, offer to purchase him, based on how pretty he is. If this does not work, educate them about boxers and the special dogs they are and how they benefit from special treatment. And how prone they can be to heatstroke. Ask them if they can afford a vet trip to treat that. Let them know if he ever has any medical problems that before they put him down, please just bring him to you and sign him over. People like this never like med. bills and prefer to put the dog down befor they pay it.

Don't worry stealing is not something I can do at this point. I am trying the brochures and also having things mailed to him by the dogs deserve better organization. I am trying all I can and next is animal control again. I will keep you all updated. Thank you for your help.
