Boxer Pal
I just got a 3 month old kitten for my 6 year old daughter. My boxer is about 14 months old and still EXTREMELY hyper. I currently have the kitten in my daughter's bedroom with a child gate up at the door so they can check each other out through the gate. Everything seems to be going okay as long as they are on opposite sides of the gate but when the kitten comes out of the bedroom, my boxer tries to chew on her. I don't think he is trying to hurt her but I'm not sure. What is the best way to get him used to the new kitten and make him realize she is not a chew toy or something to chase? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's a good idea to keep them seperated if they can't be supervised and the gate is a wonderful way to do this. They need to get used to each others presence and smells. Little by little start bringing the kitten out in the room with the dog. Let them smell each other, (while holding onto the kitten). If possible provide some sort of tree house-type apparatus....this is a link to ours....

The kitten needs to have a place that they can escape to and feel safe but still be involved in the family area. The dog must always be deterred from chasing the kitten also. Accidents can happen and a kiten is pretty easily injured by the exuberance of a boxer! As they start getting used to each other they might even become friends!

Good-Luck!
