Best baby sitter ever11

We were reluctant about getting a boxer at first because of our baby. Now I wish we had got them sooner. Our boxers keep our 4 year old busy playing while we do house hold chores and the boxers love it!

Congratulations on the new baby!!

I have a 7 yr old son and a very exuberantly friendly 3 yr old 70 lb boxer boy (Loki).Like everyone else who posted in this thread, I've noticed that Loki sizes people up and then plays accordingly.....no holds barred,all out rough housing with "daddy"....much gentler with me....gentler still with my son...and when the 2 yr old little boy I sometimes babysit is here, he lets that little boy pull HIM around the house with his tuggy rope. I love how gentle he is with the little ones !
Anyhow I could go on forever, singing the praises of Boxers and "their kids",but to sum it up...not only do I suspect you have nothing to worry about, but I believe you have many yrs of watching them bond and grow up together to look forward to....keep the camera handy!

Fond memories return

I was just reading everyones posts & it made me remember our first day home with our brand new baby & our 2 other babies aged 5 & 3 at the time.... I remember DH phone at the hospital to say I'll be there in 5 mins can you be downstairs & ready...how rude!!! i was fuming but i was waiting & there sitting either side of the baby seat was my Chief & Molly as proud as punch! they practically leapt out of the car to see our new addition but their normally boisterous behaviour was very reserved they new automatically to be gentle... I am sure I horrified half the people in the hospital carpark as we sat this small bundle down to be sniffed all over! Our dogs have been an active part n all our kids lives they were here first after all! They have been great protectors we could sit the kids down outside as babies & then know that no one would get to pick them up without Chief being right there! The only problem we do have is the fact that because our dogs are so gentle & used to giving up to the kids they expect all dogs to be like that! Sadly we lost Chief on June 1 to a tumor & cardiomyopathy so he wont get to crawl over the floor with our youngest Jessie (5mths) but he was as loving with her as he was with the other two while we still had him.... I would never trust another breed of dog with my kids like I do my boxers, its so true that they know how to roughhouse with adults & teens & yet be as gentle as a lamb with babies......

I know that new parents get very nervous about dogs and babies. And certainly they should always supervise babies and dogs very carefully. Sometimes folks don't even give the dog a fair shot - the dog is given away or surrendered to rescue before the baby is even born. I don't have children myself but I have learned that Boxers do seem to be intuitively good with children for the most part. They may act crazy most of the time, but they know to be gentle with a baby.

I need some help here

My pup is 9 weeks old and still loves to do the bitting thing. Diamond as well is starting to think she is very big for her briddgetts. I am a mother of 4 kids starting from the ages 11,7,2ys,and 10mths. I don't know if she is playing when she stats to bark at my 2yr old and all but my 2 yr old like to play ruff. And in all honesty he is down right bad to the t. I love my kids very much but I as well love my Diamond to. I am trying to get her out of the bitting stage and as well to house brake her. she knows when i get on her about biting the baby and when she listens to me about not using the kids for her teething I give her a small treat. But is this just a puppy face or what is this I don't want her to be mean and evil and so in controol of my house. I always wanted a boxer and now got one. My hubby got rid of our cocker because he would no listen to a darn thing you said to him he was just to out of controll. She is learngin the command sit adn does really good at it now when i tell her to do so and when I tell her not the baby she listens but when it comes to the hub nope she wont budge for him. I would like to know what is the best way to brake her from the bounce and barke thing at my kids and I would like to know is this her way of playing becasue my two year old plays. She loves to chase them down the hall way and all over the house and when she gets you cornered she lean fowrad and start to bark at you. But she will not bite you or hurt you. I know she loves to chew alot and wht do I do for that Can someone please help me out.

Hi, I would believe it is just a puppy face! but it will turn into a loving face as well when diamond is an adult! I have never met a mean boxer yet! But I do believe that a dog will be the result of its enviroment..I use a lot of positive reward training with our dogs & major is 10 weeks old he already knows not to bite our baby (5mths) but knows as well that he can be playfully nipping with us & the bigger kids. but only playfully once he starts to get over exuberant we stop play time & he gets put into the laundry to calm down & at this time I sit the 4yr old & 2 yr old human babies down & re explain to them what they can & cant do, a friend of mine breeds boxers & she has always advised us that we need to set the rulkes out plainly from the start with not only the dogs BUT the kids as well, as if a kid is mean, or rough or overexuberant witha puppy that puppy turns into an adolescent & an adult that thinks that the kid will always be that way with it & just associate that seeing as it can run & tackle your 2yr old it can do that to any 2 yr old...remember though boxers always are big puppies for life..I also believe in exercising & obedience training for them, only light exercise until 12mths but obedience training through a group or club as soon as you can get into a good one!

I couldnt imagine my kids ever growing up with out boxers in their lives & its harder getting them to understand No than what it is the dogs!

Just see my gallery.... Need I say more about how boxers are with newborns. It is so beautiful watching my 4 month old skin baby and my 1 1/2 yr old fur baby developing their own relationship.

Another Update

Well the baby has been home for 3 months now and Jo is growing ever more attached to baby boy. My mother in law doesn't think we should trust the dog with baby boy: Jo apparently knows this. We have friends over all the time, but when the mother in law comes over, Jo makes it a point to get in between the baby and her. I just about peed myself with joy when I first saw this...naturally my wife wasn't very impressed. I can't imagine any other way I'd want a dog to behave around my son...got to love boxers!

heee heee heee it is bizarre how the dogs can pick up on different things..way to go jo!
