Help!!! My dog smells horrible !

Bosco...I am definitely not an expert...but I think bathing twice a month is probably causing the flaking of the skin....it's probably drying his skin out.

I'm thinking that is probably what's doing it. I'll wait and see what the consesus says. It's the pee smell that gets me. Even though the splashing only gets on his leg, for some reason the smell gets all over his body as well. Maybe from scratching his dry skin! I'll have to look into getting doggie wipes.

I also give my pup baths regularly. She had a bath this morning for the first time in a few weeks, but she usually gets them more often. Riley has been recovering from an injury to her leg so she has not been to the dog park in 3 weeks, but when we go to the dog park and she gets dirty then she gets a bath at least once a week. When I see her rolling around in the dirt at the park and getting other dogs' slobber on her, I just like to get her clean. She lays on the couch and sleeps in bed with me (or on top of me!) so I like to know that she is clean. It may be excessive but I try not to use alot of shampoo and sometimes she just gets a plain water bath. Since winter is coming I'm assuming she'll be spending less time at the park so she'll need less baths. Riley's coat is still shiny and pretty so I'm not worried, but that's JMO.

Bosco....Have you tried baby wipes or the wipes that you can get at PetSmart or Petco? I should help take away the pee smell...and does take off alot of the dirt on the top layers of their coat.And Erica's idea of giving baths without shampoo all of time is a good one also.Good Luck!

new shampoo

I have been waiting for the shampoo I ordered for a long time. But , I took Reis to a squadron function in the park, and while I was there , I met a guy who has two boxers with the flaking problem. He suggested Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo and conditioner. I have tried it, and it works like a charm ! I can actually bathe him as often as needed. Like bosco, REis goes to a doggie park and rolls in the mud and gets slobbered on. I also pet sit for people who have dogs when they get here or get deployed. It rains nonstop in the winter here, so my backyard is mud now. Someone else recommended Selsun Blue, but we don't get that here. I hope that helps. Iknow it did me
