Reis smells so bad !! he has bad dandruff also. Does anyone else have this problem? when you pet him , there is a residue left on your hands. He is shedding so badly also. It is like sweeping up after 3 dogs!! The vet recommended a benzol peroxide shampoo , but I don't know which ones carry the ingredient. I have done a search online, and come up with nothing. Does anyone have any recommendations?

What kind of food are you using?
If I feed a low-medium quality food, my dog sheds also. I just recently switched to Wellness (thanks BW!) and she's doing great on it.

I agree with the other posters, sounds like it could be the food, an allergy and/or yeast infection. We've had many problems with skin & shedding issues with our Mastiff that were attributable to food allergies. He's now on a human grade kibble with adds of things like eggs, Vit. E, canned salmon/mackeral, yogurt & fresh fruit/veggies. We use Oxydex Shampoo for him as recommended by our vet, it's available OTC and it has benzyl peroxide in it - but it ain't cheap. Runs about $10-13 a bottle, but a little goes a long way.

hopefully, this will help.I agree with Cathy in regards to the suggestion of using fish oil as well as other modes of essential fatty acids. I've also read that if you supplement with EFA's, you should also supplement with Vit. E.
It seems that hasty switches to new foods can sometimes introduce other problems rather than fixing existing ones....Have you asked your veternarian if he/she thinks food is the problem?

the new vet here is not to bright. Many others have expressed their unhappines with him. but, the Vet doesn't think it is yeast. The Turkish vet doesn't have a clue. I have been meaning to switch him to Wellness for other reasons anyway. I am still waiting for it in the mail.

i'm not sure what "alot" of shedding is but Bosco is shedding. to me, it seems like alot but definitely not "3 dogs" worth. anyway, i don't think it's a bad smell because a dog will smell...like a dog. my concern is that he used to keep the good shampoo smell longer until i noticed a change about a month or 2 ago. that smell went away faster than it did before. Bosco is an inside dog and only goes out for potty. other than loving to relieve himself AFTER rubbing up against bushes, regular landscape bushes, he also "splashes" on when he pees. i tried to resolve that by wiping him down after he does his business.
as for his diet, he's been on solid gold hund-n-flocken for about 95% of his 1 year of life. his shampoo is just some generic "powder fresh" stuff that i got from Petco. he gets a bath regularly, probably twice a month. he also suffers from flaky skin, i think, and the residue that comes off of him. i can tell when he's dirty when that residue starts to come off him. it's a whitish film that i can see on my hand. i was thinking the flaking was because his baths are too frequent?
so my concern is also the smell but i'd also like some feedback on how often to bathe him.

Bosco...I am definitely not an expert...but I think bathing twice a month is probably causing the flaking of the skin....it's probably drying his skin out. From my experience, you really don't have to bathe Boxers that often.I would say a couple of times a year....but at the most, only every few months. But this is JMO! Unless, of course, they really are filthy! Both Herkie and Kuma would get COVERED in mud whenever it rained...just because they loved to play in it....and within a few hours...it would be gone! I would try and wipe them off as best I could...but they clean up nicely. So some may consider my boys "dirty"...but I only like to bath a couple of times a year.
