I've always used some tweezers, and get as close to the skin as possible so you can remove the entire thing... but if the tick's head is in too deep, you may need a vet to help you out.

If the tick is not completely in the skin, just pull it out. Make sure to do this carefully so all of the tick comes out. You can use tweezers if you like. There is some really good things out there for ticks. Go to your vet and get some Defend. It works awesome. I use it on my boxer and I have not found a tick yet. Good Luck!

I grew up on a farm in Oregon and the horses and dogs were getting ticks all the time. I was always told to pull and twist them out counter clockwise - removes the tick with the head. Apparently if you just pull and don't twist, the head will break off and then you're off to the vet.

Hope that helps!

It's kind of like pulling a weed in your yard.;)

my when my friends dog got ticks, he would get a paperclip and straighten it out and heat up one end with a lighter until it was really hot then touched the butt of the tick with the hot paperclip, it burns the tick and usually it will back out . It's just a suggestion and im a little scetchy about it because you have to be really careful not to burn your dog good luck

A friend of mine heard that is not a good idea because it will scare the tick into squirting more of it's germy juices into the dog's skin. Not sure if it is true, just what I heard. I thought it may be right, because think of a grasshopper when it gets scared... it squirts out that brown juice from it's mouth. Yuck!

Another thought.... keep an eye on the spot where the tick was. Watch for any red ring, that's a sign of Lyme disease.
