dogs will be dogs no matter how well they are trained

Dogs will be dogs at one time or another no matter how well they are trained and it seems that it happens most when we are away. Some people think putting your dog in a kennel is cruel for the dog but that is just not the truth. Teaching a dog to spend time in a kennel is more humane than allowing the dog to be put in grave danger of getting into things that will harm them such as plants, toy parts power cords and the like. Having your dog confined in a kennel while you are away will also give you peace of mind that they are safe. To train your dog to like his kennel you start slowly and you do not keep him in for more than a minute or so then you work up to longer periods of time. You also mentioned that you had a bit of land, would it be possible to build an outdoor kennel with top and concrete floor or at least a concrete edge so that they cannot dig out? One more thing….never leave your Chihuahua in the same room or pen as the others. These little dogs think they are bigger than they are and may just push the others a bit too far and then tragedy. I speak from experience leaving my little Chihuahua in the same room as my Boston, and two Pugs. I hope this was helpful and good luck with your fur kids.

Dear LuWhoo,

You are right on the money with the chihuahua. Koady has already attacked him several times, when I am with them all, because King growls and bites at the bigger animals. Some of my boys do not perceive him as a threat, but Koady evidently cannot stand him. I keep King separate from the others, he stays in a crate by himself. I have had too many dog fights over that chihuahua. I would swear if King were bigger, he definitely would be the top dog!!!!

And yes, dogs will be dogs. My boys are all fine until I leave, and then the mischief starts. My 2 older brothers are fine together in the sunroom, I put Jasper out, and crate Koady. So far, Koady has not destroyed the cage and actually likes it there.

When I am at home, in the sunroom watching TV, they are all very well behaved. I can even take them all for a ride in my Expedition, and they all get along. Of course, with gas being the way it is, the rides are not as frequent as they used to be!!!!!!
