Can someone please help me, I am at my ropes end..SheRa is about 6-7 months old. She acts like she has NO bladder control at all, I have been working and working with her and she is not getting it. She rarely has a #2 accident but she pee's any time she has to. Little puddles, big puddles in the crate, all over, all the time. I can take her out and she will use it outside them come in and 10 minutes later pee's on the floor again. She gives no warning, I keep reading "look for the sign when she is smelling the floor" she never gives any warning. I am a first time dog owner and i have been reading every thing i can on this subject and have tried everything. i just dont know what to do. I get so fustrated at her and then I feel bad about it. I think this has been about 90 times worse then potty training my children!! I am afraid that if she doesnt get it soon that I will be forced to give her up because i wont have the time or the energy to continue cleaning all day long. We love her so much and my heart aches when i think about that. She has become a part of our family, but I dont know what to do!!!! Suggestions....PLEASE!!

Help!!!!

Have you by chance taken a urine sample to the vet??? Could be as simple as a UTI. Try ruling that out first. Good Luck with your baby, and keep at it, we had the same problem and it did turn out to be an infection and at 10 mo. we are finally on the right track.

Help

That is the fun part, hahahahah!!! Maggie would squat immediately when we'd go outside, I had some little tupperware cups and you have to make sure they are sterile, and then quickly put them down there while they go. It's fairly easy with puppies go good luck. But i highly recommend doing this ASAP. Also Maggie did not do well on Clavimox, just an FYI, she didn't seem to get better until the vet put her on 2 weeks of amoxicilian. Hope you get this straightened out soon, just remember, she knows she's doing wrong but has no control. Maggie was mortified everytime she went but she just couldn't help it. We are now working on 2 months without an accident in the house. Still working on the daytime but that's 9 hrs and we have more good days than bad. :)

Mmmm. Definintely a trip to the vet. If she has a bladder or urinary tract infection (which is extremely likely from what you've described) then she actually won't have any control at all. It'd be pretty darned uncomfortable for her too.

Zoe never really gave us a sign she needed to use the potty. There wasn't any sniffing or walking in circles...she would just let it flow. We just took her out a lot! When she came back in from a potty we would praise her like crazy and give her a treat (a really good one!).

A lot of dogs around that age also relapse. Zoe did about that age and thought she was going to drive me CRAZY! We just had to start all over again with the basics. Hang in there it will get better!

I hope SheRa gets better! Zoe sends her love! lovicon

Potty

When Belle was a puppy, I actually carried her outside in the morning. She wouldn't pee in my arms. Ha. My vet said it would take 6 months for a dog the size of a boxer to be reliable house trained. It sure did.

What about taking something that she's peed on in the house (possibly from her crate) and weighing it down outside. Every time she goes out take her to the spot and give her a verbal cue. Like "go potty", "go pee pee" or whatever. When she does pee, you squeal with delight and praise her like you just won a million dollars. Jump up and down.

Nowdays, Belle will prettty much pee on command. Much of the time she'll even poop on command.

We have 2 boxers... Achilles was great with the potty training but Kali (our 7 month old daddy's girl) JUST got it. We were having the same problems. We were doing professional training and finally I realized a big part of it was what "we" were doing. I don't know what you are doing with water but we were putting it down for 30 mins at a time and letting her drink. She would go pee outside and then pee in the house 10 mins later. Well our trainer told us that if the puppy drinks water 2 times 12 mins apart... well the results in 2 peepees 12 mins apart... NOT ONE! So we started giving her water, 45 mins later we would take her out. They say they need to go between 45-75 mins after drinking water. This worked like a charm for us and we have only had one accident in about 2 1/2 months.... One other thing was that we were always telling her to go and not encouraging HER to give us a sign. We had to work on that too once we got the timing down. We put a bell on the door and are working to get her to hit the bell. We have Kali up to a sit by the door at this point... Try it and let me know if it helps!

The most concerning point in your post was not that she is having problems with housetraining - but that she is apparently peeing without any "before-pee" behaviour. I wholeheartedly agree with the first few posts - try the vet route first, because the lack of signalling seems to indicate something medical. Rule that out, or address that problem, and then start the housetraining all over! For any training to work she needs to be aware that she needs to pee, or is currently peeing! (Excellent advice has been given in this thread and others on training too, good job guys :) )

For gathering a sample, I have sometimes used a very clean plastic kiddie pool, they can stand in it and pee, you take them out, and use a container to gather up what's in the pool. It ends with a bath, of course, but sometimes it is SO hard to get a sample "free hand"!

Best of luck!!! :)
