We let her out today on her tieout (with water of course). She was out about 40 minutes when my wife noticed her laying down in the yard. She went out to her and our Boxer (Roxy) could barely stand. She stumbled to our porch, needed help getting into the house and immediatley went to her crate and layed down. She almost seems paralyzed. We called the vet and they said it was probably heat, give her water, keep her cool.......It's been a couple of hours and she doesn't look good at all. She just is laying there and eveyrone once in awhile yelps out. Could this be Cardiomyopathy?

Take your dog to the vet immediately. If she is suffering heatstroke there could be serious damage being done to her organs and brain. You do not sit around and wait to see what happens when your dog collapses and appears to be paralyzed!!!!!!!!!

Hi chadharter -

I agree with the above poster -- take her to the Vet. In addition, tie outs are extremely dangerous on so many levels. Boxers are not outdoor dogs, as they (and other Bradycephalic breeds) do not tolerate the heat very well at all.

Also, please post your Introduction. This is required of all new members, and should actually be your very first post ;)

I called the vet.....

We did call the vet. I am sure she is not suffering from heat stroke. She has been outside before much longer than this before. My wife is on the phone with the vet right now.

We had Sophie outside with us for about an hour up in northern CA and she became lathargic, hard difficulty walking, and vomiting.....we gave her 1cup of original gatorade (lemon-lime) every hour and put cool rags on her legs. With a couple of hours she was MUCH better. We were giving her water but the vet said to get gatorade into her asap...you may try that

Please take your baby to the vet ASAP. Despite the vast amount of knowledge and experience on the boards, a vet is the only person who can make a diagnosis upon seeing your baby.

I hope it's nothing serious and that your Roxy makes a speedy recovery!

Bad News....

After a long night of being optimistic, Roxy passed away this morning. We had taken her to the vet and then transported her about an hour away to an emergency medical center for dogs and cats. Initially the veternarian thought it was heat related but her blood work didn't support that theory. He said it could have been Addison's Disease as someone of the bloodwork supported that theory. We also found out through the bloodwork that she was epileptic. We had no clue about her being epileptic. We had never witnessed an episode. Roxy was only 1 1/2 years old and very small for a boxer. She was treated with Hepron injections and also was given plasma to stop the blood problems she was having. The emergency vet's assessment was that she probably had an epileptic seizure outside. When this happens, he said the body temperature increases and the heat outside didn't help the issue. I have two little boys at home that miss their buddy. She was a good girl. I don't know what more we could have done to save her. I got home as quickly as I could to take her to the vet. My wife is at home with a newborn and can't drive. I just don't know what more we could have done.

Oh my God! I'm so sorry! That is truly horrible..I have no Idea what Addisons is but I will check on it..Godspeed little girl and rest at the bridge..
