Ok, I've read just about every thread you guys have made. When she poops in the house I tell her no(firmly) then take her outside where she just sits and looks at me! This has been ongoing for like 4 months, she only poops in the house, she stopped peeing in here. Please tell me what else I can do, I refuse to hit her...

How old is she??

It is quite possible that she has got into a comfort zone going potty indoors.

How often does she go outside??

Also does she only poop in one place or all over your house??

Does she poop on a certain schedule? Is it about the same times every day? You need to start taking her outside and giving her more opportunities to go. Take her every 30 mins if need be. Also never let her out of your sight, perhaps by teathering her to you so she cant sneak off. If she even does so much as a sniff, take her outside :)

Hello! I hope my advice can help!

Most importantly is to feed on a strict schedule. Food=bowl movements soon after. So after you feed her, take her out every 20 minutes or so until she goes (say a trigger word too for the future, I say 'go poo'). Also, when she goes inside, show it to her and say no, collect her poos on a napkin and take them to the same spot outside(then you can throw it out) and show her and say the trigger word. She won't go, of course, because she just did, but she will learn where poos belong :) This will only work if you catch her in the act. If she is doing it when you don't see her, then keep her in your sight. At all times. Gate her where you are or leash her to you.

Good luck to you and your pup!

Everyone gave you excellent advice, but may I suggest that you also watch her like a hawk (if at all possible) for the next week or two and watch for any cues she may be giving (ie circling, sniffing, squatting, etc). The minute she starts doing this, take her out to do her business, and stay with her. Use a code word (ie poo, business, etc) so that she associates it with the act, and then praise her like crazy. This way, when you use the code word, she knows that you are bringing her out for a specific purpose, and not to play. Good luck ~ Cathy

we had the same problem with our lucy as well right up to a year old she is soooooooo much better now, we used the words pee and poo when it was time to go, she now tells use one bark for pee and two barks for poo. hang in there, she will come around and when she does look out, she will let you know

All the advice above is excellent. Just one additional thought, if you've been taking her outside immediately after every time she poops inside, she may have started associating pooping with a trip outdoors! That may seem unlikely to you, but think about it... it's almost like a little reward for her pooping inside. Carrying the poop outside to a designated spot may help make the trip outside more meaningful. BUT I think the most important thing is to take her out shortly after she eats a full meal and make sure she's out there to poop - then praise her while she's pooping and reward her like crazy with treats and more praise the very second she is done. Show her that pooping outside is the most fantastic thing in the world! ;) She'll catch on.

I used a code word and also, if you are sure she needs to go, don't go back inside until there's poop. I remember many a cold walk outside waiting. It will also help them associate both with one trip. I don't like going out in the cold rain for pee then back out in ten minutes for poo. Jager has learned to do both to get back inside faster. Finally the pees far outnumber the poops!! That was part of puppyhood I could have done without.

OK, this may sound strange but it worked for Roxy. I kept a journal of exactly when she ate, peed, and pooped for two days. It became perfectly clear when she would need to go. If she pooped 25 minutes after eating, we would take her out 10 minutes after...and wait, wait, wait. We also used a command. "Roxy, do your business". When she would go we would give her a treat and act like goof balls, praising her jumping up and down and so on. Our neighbors must have thought we were crazy. But it worked.
Good Luck -
