Help me decide about getting a Boxer.

I spend every minunte im not in school with mine and he still wants more attention.

I have only had my baby for about 3 months but you cannot go wrong. They are the best. You will need a lot of love and more pateince than a Saint. They are so smart they will test you at every level, but they learn quickly. They are so full of love that even when they won't (not can't) learn fast, you love them anyway. You will also need a lot of energy. They keep you running. A quiet boxer is a "naughty" boxer. They are full of energy and mischief. Go for it, you'll never be sorry. Being a rescue dog, make sure you know what issues it has so that you can address them. Was she mistreated? If so be ready with a lot love and patience. Was she just not wanted? Be ready with a lot of love and pateince. If you go ahead and get her, or him, good luck and welcome to the world of being owned by a boxer, because believe me that is the way it is. You do not own them, they own you, starting wth your heart!

They are the most wonderful dogs ever! They give so much love and they just ooze with cheek, they need so much time though and they can be a little naughty if left aloan (they normally need crated) Saffie ripped apart two beds and a sofa while she was growing up, but she has grown out of it now and can be left for short periods of time now..... if you are used to dogs and are willing to put in lots of time, then you'll get the best kind of love back....... boxer love!!!!

It definitly does take alot of time, I can never seem to give Magoo more attention then he wants. Boxers are very hyper and playful and don't seem to grow out if it (though mines only 1). Even though I was told they were hyperactive, I still wasn't quite prepared for the energy level he has added to the house. Your boxer will make it a constant battle to keep your house clean, tracking in mud and slobbering on you and your furniture.
But all that said they really are the most fantastic and LOVING dogs. I have never met a sweeter dog then my Magoo. He is a constant source of amusement with his crazy antics and if you have the patience (very important) and sense of humor for a boxer, they will give you more love and satisfaction then you could ever anticipate!

To be a good boxer owner takes time, energy, patience, love, and money....Boxers are THE best dog in the world--but they do take effort. They love people, so they need to be not only indoors but WITH you (almost always). They need a lot of attention (time), so you have to be patient with the fact that you will have a 75 pound lap dog.
They love to play--and they have a lot of energy for it! You'll go through a lot of toys if you have a boxer.
They get into stuff sometimes (though I must say, my Toffee has never been a problem), and you have to be gentle when you deal with them. They're sensitive (at least Tof is!). You can't yell at them if you're mad--they know they did something wrong.
But if you give a Boxer a good home, you will be rewarded on a non-stop basis by a loving, loyal, always-happy creature at your side!

I agree with all the posts completely. I have two young Boxers and just love them so much I can't believe it sometimes. They are definitely people dogs and need lots of attention and love. I dedicate every night to them, my girls are with them right after school every weekday, I send them to daycare and I spend 90% of the weekend with them. They LOVE the attention, crave it and need it. Yes, they do slobber some and my wood floors used to be so pretty but now are constantly dirty. But you know what? So what! They've taught me to be much more easy going about keeping a perfect house. They make me smile all the time. They cuddle, they play whenver you want to. They get up out of a dead sleep to greet anyone at the door with great big wiggles and licks. They are smart, beautiful and the perfect size for a dog. Can you tell I love my babies? Big time!! I hope you go for it and find out how truly amazing Boxers are. Keep us posted! Karen

Go for it, you'll not reget it. I love it when I have had a bad day at work and come home to play with Sarge. He just takes all my stress away and says come on dad through that ball for me a little while (ok a little while for a Sarge is until he finds another toy to play with). Owning a boxer takes some getting used to but it is worth it. Also I highly recommend crate training the dog. I don't think I would have a dog that was not crate trained, just makes it so much eaiser to keep up with them. Good luck with your decision.

Not long ago I sat in the stylist's chair and listened as the young woman started talking about her ADD dog and how the dog writhed and twisted her body and always acted like seeing her was the most exhilerating thing her dog does, even if she had just walked into and out of the same room. I just grinned from ear to ear. "You have a boxer don't you?" I asked. She was amazed. Unfortunately, her boyfriend detested the dog calling her a niusance and some other less that complimentary names. So it depends on the person.
We've had our Betz for almost two years and I love her more and more everyday! She's a bundle of wiggly energy all the time. She grins and spins and jumps and literally throws herself into everything she does with great 'passion'. She's got such a beautiful spirit and joy dances in her eyes. My family thinks she's a dope and annoying but they lovingly 'tolerate' her because I love her so much. Ultimately, YOU have to decide, so have you stopped by the kennel that is housing the boxer? Have you spent time with this particular dog? As I read from MANY people while I was searching and researching, these dogs are not for everyone. I got my boxer because I NEEDED something to get me out of my chair and moving and Betz gets and keeps me moving. She's a delight, fun, slobbery and just so precious to me. Hard work? Yep! But they give SO much more and keep you laughing. There will not be a day that goes by that a boxer will not find something to do that won't bring laughter into your life.

we have had our Layla girl for 2 weeks, and we had her dad, Koojeaux, for 4 years, and they are the most awesome dogs! They have SO much love to give, and they make you feel so wonderful! I love it when Layla lays her head on me and gives that cute little sigh! Layla will be our baby until we have children, and I couldn't ask for a better furkid. She has made us laugh until we cry with her hilarious antics, and her clumsiness. She thinks she is a 70 lb dog already. You DO have to have a LOT of patience, b/c they are very smart, like everyone else has said, and they will test you on EVERYTHING!! You will have a 70 lb lap dog when they get grown, and that's perfectly fine with me! If you do get a boxer, you will not regret it, they are the BEST dogs in the world!
