Someone please give me advice. My 7 month old Winston just came back this weekend from the boarder and had loose stool. She said he got along fine but its his first time away. All this week his stool has been loose but feels fine. Today he had 3 accidents in house that looked like bloody jelly. He eats good, no fever, plays, nothing out of the ordinary but this. This scares me! I read somewhere on the net that your dog can have this from stress and change of diet. The lady told me when I picked him up that he ate some of the other dogs feed. That upset me! I know the change of diet can give him loose stool but he's never had blood like this. I'm calling the vet in the morning!

Hi

My Madison sometimes has runny, bloody stools with mucous, and my vet said that it's because she suffers from Colitis. Like Winston, Madison was still happy and playful.

This can range is severity, and can be brought on by stress, strange food, allergies, and probably other things. We now feed Maddy a fairly strict diet, and add bran and cottage cheese to help her system. We also stopped feeding her things like pigs ears - amazing results so far.

This may be a one-off occurrence of Colitis - I'm not sure if that can happen - and I hope it is. But I'd take your guy to the vet as soon as you can, just in case.

I hope Winston (and you) feel better soon.

Hi Julie,
Thanks so much or responding to my plea. I called the vet and they want me to bring a stool sample in and he has an appointment in the morning to see her. They also think it is stress related. They also told me I could give him boiled hamburger and rice today.
All of my friends said you need to board your baby a few times so they don't get so dependent on you. Well I guess this shows I should have went with my instincts and said no. Where I go he goes!
Thanks again.....boxer hugs to you and Madison!

We just went through a similar thing with our Lucy. The vet asked us if we had boarded her recently...yes, we had. A stool analysis confirmed that she had Giardia, a parasite. Symptoms were bloody stools and vomiting every now and then...food didn't look like it had been digested. Lucy has allergies and licks her feet alot. The vet said no matter how sanitary the kennel is, if a dog licks their feet like our Lucy does, she is highly susceptible to exposure if it is around. He prescribed a couple of different pills for teatment...she's back to normal. May not be the same thing with your pup, but thought I would pass it along.

Thanks for reply Tim,
I took a stool sample in today and they said there was nothing in it. It was still a little bloody but not as bad. They gave him two medications and told me they thought it was diet change and stress. They also told me to fix him a bowl of boiled rice and boiled hamburger to eat. It seems to have done the trick for now. I called the lady at the boarding place and she told me she did him a different feed because he was wanting what the others had. She said that he might have been stressed too because he barked and was upset with other male dogs being there.
Winston goes traveling with us a lot and he see's other dogs and has never been upset with them. I learned my lesson......he goes where I go now!
I don't think Boxers like to be boarded at all, or at least mine never have. They want to be with you in any conditions. I guess thats one of the things we love about this breed.
Thanks for the help Tim.

My Dutchess's had the same problem. She had bloody stool and the vet said that it was probably the change of food. Come to find out she had corona which is like parvo except dogs don't normally die from it. She died 2 days after we took her to the vet. She had all her shots so I couldn't understand why she got this. The way they get it is from other animals stool. If I were you I would watch Winston very close. Maybe even call and talk to the vet about it to see what he tells you. I hope everything is fine with winston. Keep us posted.

Oh my gosh Mandy I am so sorry to hear that happened to your furbaby. I have never heard of that but I will sure keep a close watch on him. Today his stool is back to normal but I'm still very cautious. Winston has been known to eat his own stool if he has an accident but who knows he could have done that at the boarding place.
