Buster is 10 months old and he weighs 50 lbs. He comes from championship bloodlines but doesn't seem to be filling out as much as should be. I know he is still a puppy, but it seems no matter what I can't get him to gain weight. This is my first boxer and I am just concerned. Should I be worried, is there anything I can do to promote growth and how long do they usually grow? Thanks for any help, Greg

I just posted an answer to an almost identical question from jacksondad - maybe something in that topic will help you?
Alot of people say boxers often don't completely fill out till 2-3 years of age - it could be a long wait!
Good luck with Buster!

Buster's weight sounds fine for his age; Boxers grow til they're about 2 yrs. of age. Ruby is 2 1/2 years old and she weighs 52 lbs. She didn't really fill out though until she was about 18 months old.

Ruby is also from champion blood lines and from the few champions I've been around, they seem smaller than you would expect. I get comments all the time about Ruby like "oh, isn't she small?" and "I always thought Boxers were bigger". My husband and I thought Ruby must have been the runt but when we went to the shows and looked at the ones in the ring, she's the same size.

A few times when I tried to make her "fill out" more by feeding her a little extra food, it seems to have given her a small cow-like udder instead of actual muscle and bulk. It seems as though there is a fine line with them between keeping them lean and making them fat.

We went through the same thing....your baby is FINE. Boxers are slower to mature than other breeds, and I noticed with Angus that he was not as motivated by food as was other dogs of different breeds (Labs, for instance).

It was only recently that Angus started to get any sort of girth, previously he just got taller and lankier. He is 13 mos. old.

Hope that helps!

I had the same worries with Kes right up until she was 18 months then all of a sudden she started to fill out now she is a nice size and can knock you over with one look :) your puppy is still young before you know it your boxer will be huge :).

As long as you puppy is healthy and you feed a good food, do not worry. Did you see his parents? How much di they weigh?
Most Show dogs nowadays do not weigh 70lbs so I would think he is right on target, they all go thru that akward stage.
Even pups that come from my monsters at 8 months only weigh 50-60 lbs so do not worry!
