Hi,

I have just became owner of a Boxer/German Shepherd crossbreed (I inherited it from my 17yr old daughter).

I'm wondering if any of you know what I can expect as far as temperment goes. Do you think it will a good family dog? A smart dog?

I've never owned a dog before so any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.
James

Well being part boxer/ german sheperd it should have a very good temperment. Both breeds are to be very good with children and are very good protectors. You might just have the best of both worlds looking right at you. Congratulations!!!

it sounds as if should certainly be a smart dog.....and in being a smart dog, youll have to be a smart owner and find ways to occupy it!
many of the dogs in my obedience club are GSDs...and boxers can excel at obedience work as well--so you two might have a fun time doing obedience, or even agility together!
its also most likely going to be an active, playful dog, and like dgreen76108 said, a good family companion.

good luck with your new pooch!!

I have a friend with two German Shepherds, and I have a full boxer... but this weekend we went camping and I was actually thinking what a cool dog it would be if I could have both temperment's mixed into one. The Shepherds are very smart... and they are very protective... Louie is smart, and protective too... all three of them were on "patrol" all weekend making sure everything, and everyone (including two 6 month old babies) were safe. They would come up and just check to make sure the babies were okay about every 5 minutes... and try to sneak a kiss in too!!! Might have something to do with the leftover baby food on their faces!!!
Congrats!! I can't wait to see the pic's!

Well my friend... it looks like you're gonna be a "crater". Sometimes you get lucky.. and some times you don't. I'm a lucky one (not to make you feel bad) but my friend can't leave either of her boxers alone while she showers because they get bored and eat through dry wall.
Petsmart... large crate.... bout 125 bucks!
Good luck Dog Father!

I also think a crate is a good idea. How old is your dog? Was he housetrained at all before you got him? Any routine established when he was left alone? If you can give us a little more info like that, we'll be able to give you better advice. Sorry the first day didn't go so well. It will get better!
