Hey Konah's Mom... if you are ever within the Calgary vicinity, be sure to send me a PM... Willis would love to play with Konah!!! I will be sure and do the same if we are ever somewhere near Edmonton. :) Love meeting boxerworld people! They are the best.

Cami is living proof that demodex can be defeated without using harsh chemicals. The most inportant rule is to boost the immune system so that they can fight it naturally.

Another thing to remember....demodex can be worsened by stress. For this reason we opted to remove her from classes until it was gone. She gets so hyped up around other dogs and I wanted her to channel all of her energy into getting healthy. After 2 months the new spots stopped appearing and hair started to return to the once bald areas.

It does take alot of work. Food additives, vitamins, low stress, etc...but it can happen.

Good-Luck

My vet told me that 80-90% of dogs diagnosed with Demodex recover on their own, once the immune system kicks in. He initially said to watch and if she developed 7-8 places, call him. When she did, we started the invermectin. The scrapings indicated she had dead adult mites, which meant she was fighting the mange, but needed a little extra help, as he put it. One of the other vets said that when immune systems were given out, she didn't get the best one!

I have noticed that a lot of vets begin the ivermectin immediately. When that is done, it is difficult to know if the dog's immune system could have taken care of the Demodex on it's own.

When I felt all stressed an confused about Tae's Demodex, I had a coworker ask her sister-in-law (who's a vet) about how she would suggest treating mange and she actually does start dogs on ivermectin immediately. I guess they all have different treatment preferences!

Thanks Everyone!

Thank you so much! He's on Ivomec, and we're going to buy some missing link and vitamin e cream. I'm not going to pull him from class because he usually loves it and sleeps in between the activities so i don't think it stresses him Plus his girlfriend is there and he adores her (boston terrier named cocoa who fell asleep in my arms last tuesday!!!)

Jen, i'm not sure how to PM but i'll definitely try.

We start agility headstart (intro basically playing on the equipment etc so they get used to it) on oct 5. Very excited. My current trainer and i are going to be in the class together!! It's not the hard core agility yet, we have to wait for his growth plates to mature more. Anyway i'm excited.

So the mange is...the mange. Training is going well. And we're going to the dog park tonight. So all is well. Thanks again for all of your support!
