I've been noticing a few small bald spots appear on GAGE'S legs, chest, and the side of his face. Out of concern I took him to the vet yesterday to find out he had red mange. Like many of you I worry myself sick about my baby, especially this. He acts fine, just the spots. My vet put him on a low dose of iversol liquid. What can I do to help my 7 mo old puppy? Is he gonna fully recover with time or is this a life-long problem? I'm so worried! Any information would be helpful to me and my puppy!/ BTW I found this site yesterday trying to find info about demodectic mange. I fell in love with this awesome site. You all are the best!
Thanks,

Mange

Hi
My Boxer Harley had mange when he was a puppy. Do not worry it will clear up. It often gets worse before it gets better. Harley was not put on meds, however; he had go through a series of 6 or 7 dips before his mange cleared up. The fur grew back slowly but when grown in, you would never know he had mange. Harley is now 1 and there has been no reoccurance of mange. He is a healthy, happy "busy" boxer. Good luck and welcome to BoxerWorld.

Demodex Mange

Don't worry yourself sick about this. Some dogs get this and some do not, it usually occurs because of a low immune system. It sounds worse, and looks worse than it is. It usually clears up within 6 to 8 Mitaban treatments (dips).
However, some may require several more. Early detection is the best cure because one can start the dips quicker.
Don't worry, really.

I would not consider the mitaban dips as an option, If you search the site you will find a lot of information on other options to treat demodex mange.

I've had a couple threads on here about demodex... We went through it with Guinness...actually it is just ending. It will take time and will get worse before it gets better. My vet refused to do dips or medication (beside antibiotics) becuase he didn't want to chance the side effects of either. Since it's kind of a waiting game for the immune system to kick in he just had us hang in there, give him the antibiotics and put cream on him... I read on here about sea meal which is a suppliment I believe helped and also kept him on Chicken soup for puppies that kept his coat looking really good. It was about 2 months for the first spot to fur growth for us. If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me or email me, it's nice to have someone who has delt with it to talk to...

Thanks to each of you for you insight. I feel relieved to hear he'll be just fine in time! I will be looking into giving him supplements to boost his immune system. Thank you for the suggestions! Does anyone know anything about the iversol liquid?(that's the medicine he's being treated with.) Again thank each of you for your input and helpfulness!!!!!

I noticed my pup had it at about 3 months of age. I started seeing hair loss around her eyes and ears and then on her legs, just spots here and there. The vet put her on Ivermectin for a month and it has cleared up but I still have to give the Ivomec once a week for a few months. I have run out of this medicine and don't plan on giving it because it is very harsh on them. Instead I am boosting her immune system. Get Solid Gold seameal and give it twice a day. It is a supplement. All the mites are gone and I am hoping they will stay away but demodectic mange is known to come back with stress.

I haven't heard of Iversol, but of ivermectin. Ivermectin is used as an injection for cattle, but given by mouth to dogs for mange

I would not be giving Ivermectin as a prevenitive for demodex. Check this thread for some of the reactions to ivermectin. These reactions are why I chose not to use it.

I've been reading up on d-mange here on BW. I'd like to start holistic treatments with his medicine. Any exact directions on how much veggies/fruits, herbs, and supplements per day? Also any additional info on what to feed him.
