Hi....My 70lb white boxer ran up to greet another dog yesterday---a german shepard, and the german shepard grabbed hisa leg and threw him to the ground. There was a bit of bleeding (not much) but he's got a few gashes and he is favoring the leg. Its obviously very very sore. I'm keeping the leg clean, with peroxide and some neosporin, but what can I give him for pain relief? Is it true I can give him a buffered aspirin with his food? Otherwise he is happy and wagging his tail, but he is limping. His bones are fine, nothing in broken.

The reason I am asking is because my husband is away for 2 days and I'm alone....and my car is in the shop---(I thought I would have a quiet weekend)...and I cant get out to the vet till Tuesday, even if I tried! (I could call my mom but she lives an hour away)

Can you please tell me what I can give him to make him comfortable? There is a drug store right around the corner and I can walk there....For those of you who have been in this situation, please tell me what I can give him---if anything----that I wont have to worry will hurt him, until I can get out to the vet? Also, can it be given twice a day?

Thanks

If I were you I would first try to find a ride to the vet...then I would do a search for aspirin on this site

BUT NEVER TYLENOL!

sorry I'm not much help
I do hope things get better soon

You can give him a regular 325mg of asprin. My ChowChow weighs 75lbs and she is allowed to have 1 1/2 asprins every four hours. Asprin will not hurt him, Tylenol and Ibprophen will, only give asprin. I agree that a vet visit is in order since there are puncture wounds, they can get a staph infection in puncture wounds. Sending {{{{{{{healing}}}}}}} vibes to your baby that he gets to feeling better soon.

We have given our dogs buffered apirin, only buffered mind you, for different things before. However, I would ask your mom to come so you can run him to the vet first. I would never give my baby anything, especially after being bit by another dog without first seeking the vets advice. If you can't go, then give them a call and see what they say. Hope all heals well! ;)

P.S. only 1 buffered aspirin a day is what we were told. :)

thanks for your help. I am calling my mom to see if we can get him to the vet today. I dont want him getting an infection.

So, one bufferred apirin in the meantime will be ok? (with some food)

Thanks!

I know that the one buffered aspirin is ok because my vet prescribed that along with benedryl quite recently after a bee sting, but it sounds like your dog needs something more than that. It seems like everything happens at night or on the weekend, but if at all possible I would really try to get to the doctor today. Good luck!!

I haven't had any boo-boos with Blaze...yet.

But with our Great Danes and Dalmations, we always gave them aspirin. I would go ahead and give one until you can get to the Vet to keep down any swelling. Cleaniing (flushing) the wound, keeping it dry, and Neosporin, etc. isn't a bad idea either. Try to keep all the germies out of it until it can be looked at by a pro. I deffinantly think the Vet should be seen especially if your pups shots aren't up to date. You never know where that German Shepard has been!
