We currently own a 60 pound 2 1/2 year old neutered male boxer. He is a great dog, a little needy and pushy and sometimes has trouble sharing toys. He has been a great dog and loves us and everyone so much. He plays well and sometime loves to play rough with other dogs. Overall he is a wonderful boy who is well mannered. We just found out that the breeder that we bought him from is going out of business and has three male puppies left. We have always talked about getting another boxer but have gone back and forth on it. Can anyone give any thoughts on owning two boxers and how the experience has been? We're dedicated to the one we have and have done extensive training with him so I'm pretty sure with our dedication we can make it work. I think we're just nervous if they don't get along or can't co-exist for some reason. Please give us some insight into owning two of these wonderful dogs.

I love having two boxers. Granted of course it is more work, money, etc. But it is worth it to have two warm snuggle butts on top of you instead of just one :) . They play so well with each other and in our case has helped immensely with the energy level. As far as the older dog helping with the training of the younger....this did not happen in our case. Aniah played it by her rules and was a very difficult pup. In my opinion this had nothing to do with Cody......it was just the way of the Princess.
I would say go for it. The only thing better than one boxer is two. :)

We have 2 but got them around the same time (a month apart). Millie had already established a bit of "only dog syndrome" but adapted quickly. Like it was already said, it really does help with the energy level. We can go to the dog park any time of day because it doesn't matter if there are other dogs there, not to mention they run and play with each other all over the house. And on top of it all...I love snuggling in the bed with one on each side of me.

Yes, it's more money, more time, more effort, more mess....but it is double the boxer love :)

We have have 2 boxers, and I can't imagine having just one anymore. As for more work, I've never felt that way. I find I get twice the love and twice the fun!

We have an 11 week old male boxer who joined our family a few weeks ago. Recently, my sister asked us to petsit her 2 yr old neutered male boxer (also from the same breeder) and I was a little worried about whether they would get along... turns out they get along great! They are already cuddling together during naps and it's only been 4 days!

Diesel (2 yr old) has been a good influence on Guinness (puppy) in many ways, such as following a routine (Guinness will eat when Diesel is eating whereas we struggled to get him to follow an eating schedule previously). They play quite rough together (Guinness always coming back for more) and Diesel will usually give appropriate feedback during play; however, I sometimes worry that he lets Guinness get away with too much. I worry a little about how Guinness will play with other puppies and other breeds. Sometimes, Diesel does seem a little annoyed with Guinness because the puppy always wants to play. Apart from that, they seem to really be enjoying each others company.

That being said, Diesel is coming into our home as a visitor (whereas your boxer is established as the only dog in your home) and he has had a few 2 week stints at other homes with dogs in the past year.

I know we are definitely open to adding another boxer to our family in a couple years based on our good experience with these two together.

We have two and I love it. I can't imagine going back to just one. They are wonderful company to each other when we are not at home. It is more work and more money but well worth it.

Kilby'sMum

Super Boxer
I'd say go for it. Kilby was about 2.5yrs when we brought home an 8wk old Kona. I won't lie, it was awful at first but that may have been because Kona was sent to us straight from hell ;D She was the most difficult puppy but Kilby has patience galore as does my husband so we made it through the tough times :) Kona adored Kilby from day 1 and is still her biggest fan while Kilby took a while to warm up to her little sister. But, they are now inseparable and shower us with soooo much love and at this point (Kona is about 16mths) I wouldn't say it's much more work than one (but it is expensive).

We got our male right after our females second birthday. I was nervous at first because we too had been very dedicated to our female. It was amazing when he came home, she loved him so much that she would cry and wine when we put him into the crate. She wanted to be by him 24/7 and acted like it was her new baby. The only change we saw in her happened the first time we took her to the lake for our Sunday afternoon walk. She always loved meeting new dogs and would play very well with them. After Deuce arrived she became this very protective dog, even when he wasn't around, and if other dogs came to close to her she would get a little agressive. He is now two and she is still very protective of him, even though he is twice her size, and he is very calm and passive and loves to meet new dogs. If we let him interact with other dogs and she stands off it is a very funny reunion when we get back to our walk. Have you ever seen a woman chewing out her spouse for his wondering eyes??? Thats how she is, she gets in his face like "HOW DARE YOU!" Deuce was a complete surprise to me as our second boxer and I can not remember how it was only having one, they are a joy to be with.

I've had 2 Boxers, I was fortunate enough that I had the first as a pup and close to a year old my friend rescued the 2nd one. In age they were about 6 months apart. When I would visit her they would play and play. Eventually she had to rehome him and I took him in. Those 2 were sooo close! 2 Boxers is AMAZING!

I got a Boxer puppy a few weeks ago and today we picked up our 2nd. Oh to have 2 Boxer boys again! LIFE IS GOOD!
