HELP!! 1yr old ate rubber band on food dish!!

I came home yesterday after work and like normal we would keep a food dish in our 1yr old crate. He's a grazer and eats here and there. Well came home and took him outside with our other little one and when I came back in to get his food dish to feed him dinner I noticed the rubber around the bottom of the food dish was missing. Original thought was my gf must have took it off.
When she came home I asked her about it and she said no it was there when she came home at lunch. We checked his cage and didn't find. So our worst fear has happened, he ate it. Is this something that can break down in his system or should we be running him to the vet? He's acting normal, running around and having normal bowel movements. I noticed his intake of water has increased a little more. Just a little scared for our boy!

My Miles actually ate a dish rag. I had it on the sink and came back and it was gone. I got on this website and I was told to give some water with some salt. It worked. I had a mess.. he started to vomit and diarrea.. but he vomited up the rag.. thank god.... I was shocked he even ate it. He eats food all the time..he was just a puppy and I dont know what had gotten into him. I am glad for this website because if not he would of had an obstruction and needed medical care or even worse die. I hope if anything like this happens again you will be able to try this. It worked for me.. bye...

I would confer with your vet, but in the interim, monitor him closely and see if he passes it. Good luck and do keep us posted ~ Cathy

Right now I would just monitor him closely, most likely he'll just pass it. But keep a close eye on him. Also for future ref, when they've eaten something bad, you can give them a Tbsp of peroxide, this will induce vomitting.You can also do a search on peroxide, using the search engine to verify what I am saying is correct. Hope your baby is ok. Keep us posted!

Update

Just a quick update..

Our 1yr old got sick last night and vomited a few small pieces of the rubber and then again this morning. By looking at the pieces he chewed them up pretty well so hopefully that some will pass and more will come up.
I'll be giving him so Salt & Water tonight when I get home from work

How much to Salt to how much water? How long after should he start to feel sick from the salt and start to vomit and the squirts??

Rather than giving salt and water, you can give hydrogyn Peroxide. Just give them a tablespoon at a time until they throw up. It will probably only take a couple.

The rubber band will probable pass just fine, especially if she chewed it up. Why did you have a rubber band on her bowl?

I heard the peroxide works well also but I was just afraid to give to Miles at the time. I was so nervouse when he ate that rag. I opted for the salt and water. I just made it salty. Not to much salt.. and my goodness it happened within ten minutes. It was awful but It saved me a trip to the vet since I caught it in time. A rag was seriouse.. I am glad it happened and I found out about it right away. Sounds like your baby chewed it up but you can try the salt if you want. It was a mess and lasted til he could not poop anymore or vomit. He didnt suffer. But seemed rather relieved when the rag came up. I was to. Let me know what happens ok.

The rubber band will probable pass just fine, especially if she chewed it up. Why did you have a rubber band on her bowl?

It is probably not a "rubber band" but rather the removable rubber non skid strip on the bottom of the bowl to keep the bowl from moving.

Good luck with your baby Hopefully the pieces will pass uneventfully.
