Just want to say hello to everyone. Even though this account is listed under my husband's name, my name is Billie Jo (And I am the one who is usually writing). Our baby boy was born on July 12, 2000. "Charlie" is a flashy fawn with ears cropped and tail docked. He is our first boxer and he is "our child". We love him soo much. Unfortuneately, Charlie has been having problems. When He was about 5 months old, he started having these "attacks". He would reverse sneeze and throw up 12 or more times an hour. The vomitting would eventually stop but the reverse sneezing would last for hours. These episodes are very hard on him and me too. We have taken him to the regular vets numerous times and to the emergency vets numerous times also. He has had xrays taken, a barium test done and our vet told us that she thought Charlie's attacks were due to allergies. Charlie has been on hills prescription diet since he was 5 months old. We have to mix his food with metamucil because his stools are like water if we do not. Anyway, Since January, Charlie has not had an attack until about 4 weeks ago. We rushed him back down to the ER vets (since these attacks always seem to happen after our vet is gone for the day)...Anyway, to make a long story short... Charlie was rediagnosed with an elongatted soft palette. He is to have surgery on it next week. I am very worried about him and concerned about the different diagnoses. He is "our baby" and a wonderful "spoiled" puppy. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you a little about our baby boy. I also tell my husband that God gave us him be he knew we would take good care of him.

Welcome to the board, Billie Jo -and fellow pennsylvanian! I'm sorry to hear about Charlie and his health. He sounds like a sweet boy with wonderful, loving parents. Keep us updated on his health.

I'm sorry to hear about Charlie, I hope the surgery goes good, and he's on a healthy path to recovery soon. He was a very lucky boy to find such loving people like you and your husband. I love to hear stories of people who love their pets (babies) enough to do anything for them. I wish you all the best of luck !

Update

Just wanted to update everyone on Charlie's Condition. Charlie did not have the surgery on his soft palette. We went to the surgeon's office and he said that our boxer was misdiagnosed (by 2 different vets).. He referred us to a gastro - internalist who did a complete blood workup and fecal workup and found nothing. Last Wednesday, Charlie went for an endoscopy. The gastro-internalist called me last night with the results....He has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She said that it is treatable with diet and medication (when needed) but he will still have these vomitting attacks from time to time... My poor baby. She also told me that the next couple months will be trial and error (until we see what food works best for Charlie). Does anyone know anything about this disease or can anyone tell me where to look to get information on this disease... I want to find out all I can, hopefully, the more I know, the better I can help Charlie. I am also going to post under the medical conditions forum and see if anyone else would know anything.... I am somewhat relieved to finally know what is wrong with our baby... we have been extremely worried about him... And vets have not helped...They have been looking for a "quick fix" instead of finding the underlying cause of my baby's attack. They even recommended surgery that would have cost us $700.00 - that he did NOT need. Please note, that the money is not the issue... we are not wealthy but we do what is necessary for our baby... If he needed the surgery we would have gladly paid for it... but he did NOT!! Sorry, to go off and vent. I am just a little upset that it took so long and many misdiagnosis (and an almost un-needed surgery) before we found out what was causing charlie's attacks. Thanks everyone for listening... I really appreciate all the support you have given us....

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie. You sound like wonderful loving parents. My mother told me the same thing about my babies. She said god sends me the special creatures because he knows I will take care of them. Hugs to you and Charlie. I hope his condition can be controlled. Welcome to the Boards, I am sure you will get lots of helpful information here.

Hi Billie Jo
Welcome to the forums! I am sorry to hear of Charlie's condition, but Thank Goodness it was diagnosed before he went through the unnecessary surgery. I am sure that once you find the proper most tolerable diet for him you will be able to keep his condition maintained.
If I locate any information on the internet for you I will post the links. Good luck and keep us informed as to how Charlie is making out. There is a wealth of great boxer knowledge on this forum, so do not hesitate to seek out advice.

Jean
