There is nothing that can replace the loss of a Boxer, especially one that has endeared itself to you. However, it is also true, that nothing will do more to ease the pain than the aquisition of another Boxer.
When Rocky had to be euthanized 11/26/01, we debated about getting another. After a couple of weeks of looking at the spots where Rocky liked to rest, and not seeing him there, I knew that we had to get another. So, on February 20th of 2002 we made the journey from Massachusetts to Virginia to pick up a new member of our family. His name is Indy.
He was born on December 23, 2001. Almost two months after Rocky's passing. He is a plain brindle with black mask and white tips on his paws. The picture on this post is Indy at about 10 weeks old. He is so similar to Rocky that it seems Rocky's spirit now inhabits Indy's body.
While I still have my "Rocky moments" when I get melancholy, I am thankful for the years we had. As time passes, thoughts of Rocky bring more smiles than frowns to my face.
The holidays were quite somber last year. We are looking forward to a festive holiday season this year. Indy's first Christmas with us will no doubt be very interesting and amusing.
I am sorry for your loss, but wish you well with your new family member.
Sympathy and congratulations, Tom
