Hi, we just got our female boxer puppy, Kashmir, last week from Rodlin Kennels in Ontario. She is now 9 weeks old. She's a flashy brindle, and she's a handful! She loves to chase my feet... however, she's a real lovebug when she's tired :)

Hi Melissa and Kashmir, and welcome from another new poster! We are from Montreal too, actually Greenfield Park on the South Shore. Boxerworld is terrific, full of really useful information and lots of friendly folks. We got our Sugar from a pet shop after a terrible breeder experience. I would love to know where Rodlin Kennel is located, because we plan on getting another dog in a year or so. Sugar is a sweet, pretty, brindle girl who came to us ill, but we have nurtured her back to full and glowing health. If I have one piece of advice to offer a new boxer owner, it's "Buy Kong Toys! Buy Nylabone Toys!" Sugar has owned around 35 toys, but only around 15 survive, and from now on, I only buy the best. Nothing is more scary than seeing your beloved pup happily digging into a "stuffy" looking for the squeaky part! I am so thrilled that my very first dog is a boxer because she is so smart, so brave, and so full of love and puppy kisses.

Hi everyone,

Rodlin Kennels is in Smith Falls, Ontario, which is about halfway between Kingston and Ottawa. Yes, I agree, Linda is very nice! She was supposed to have another litter sometime during the summer but the dam didn't get pregnant :(

We're located in downtown montreal. let's just say there are lots of distractions when we take her out for potty time...

I'm looking forward to exploring this boxerworld - i have so many questions!

I took some time off to be with my new puppy initially, but i'll be going back to work next week. my boyfriend studies nearby and can come home to feed her and play with her a little at noon, but i'm wondering how she'll do in her crate the rest of the day. any of you in the same situation?

hi! it's so cool to have members so close! sugar's mom: i'm from greenfield park, then i moved downtown and we just moved to brossard!(r section). do you ever go to the dog parks around here? i tried to private message you but it didn't work :( we want another boxer too eventually when we have more space! our next one will be from a rescue cuz i volounteer with another man for boxer rescue canada for quebec. what was your bad breeder experience?
we should all meet up for a boxer playdate after melissandkash get all the shots over with!
melis&kash: your baby will get used to the crate and even like it eventually ;)
we are lucky because someone is usually home with vegas(i work weekends and only a couple of week days and my boyfriend works 9-5 weeks)so he is a spoiled boy and needs to get used to being alone. but if kash gets used to it now you wont have any problems later-it's great that your b/f can stop by and visit!

This is great! Crystal, What is the "R" section close to? We're close to Future Shop. We stay away from the dog park in St Lambert near the river, because some of the dog owners there really are not watching their dogs, and we have been badly hassled by a couple of the pooches. Sugar also picked up a nasty parasite there. There is another park up on Rome, gated and with a hill in the center. It has some marshy bits, so use it with caution. We tend to walk Sugar around the neighborhood, but also take her for walks to the huge park off of Gaetan Boucher in St Hubert. St Helen's Island is good, too.
We would love to meet you and have a playdate! And I think it is excellent that your next dog will be a rescue! I really admire that, but Sugar was my first dog and I was reluctant to try to handle one that might need a more knowledgeable owner.
We can discuss the bad breeder thing when we meet. Basically, the pup was very sick (rage) and the breeder was very nasty about taking her back. We only got part of our price back, and were out-of-pocket about 1000 in vet bills.
Melissa: Books say not to crate a boxer more than 6 hours. Also, when she's a puppy she will need frequent trips outside. The rule of thumb (I don't know how much experience you have with puppies) is one hour per month of age plus one, i.e. 4 hours maximum for a 3-month old pup. I'm home right now (going through chemotherapy) so Sugar is a bit spoiled. There were a lot of little accidents at first.... Mom had to learn to have a very quick eye for the squat, even though I was taking her out every couple of hours.
Thanks for the info about Rodlin, I will look them up!

hi melissa, how's kashmir liking the crate?
pam, we got vegas from a breeder too, since he was our first dog-for the same reasons as you. since i feel i'm more dog saavy now, i think i'm ready for a rescue next :) actually we were supposed to take in a foster on saturday but now the owners have decided they wanna keep her again and try training(i think the owners need training but thats another topic).
we stopped going to the st lambert dog park for the same reason and now go to the park on rome,it's great cuz vegas gets so tired from running up and down the hill!
oh the r section is behind the costco on taschereau.
whew!are kashmir and sugar lazy today?vegas is sleeping in my bedroom where its cooler,he's been there all day.usually he has to be in the same room as me but he's soooo hot!
see ya!

Hi Everyone

Crystal, which breeder did you get Vegas from? Anyone know of breeders in our area? I would love to see some more puppies :) Aren't boxers contagious!?!
Sugar has disappeared, let me go find her...ah, here she comes, checking up on Mom! As I sit at the computer, she is licking my elbow... I just have to pat my lap and she comes up for a hug... ahhhh.
We have a heat pump, and I keep the house at a steady 24. The pump may be on its last legs (sshhh) and I am praying that it lasts the whole summer.
I am so glad that we have it and can keep the pup cool on those blistering hot Montreal summer days!
Do you folks check out any of the dog shows here and elsewhere? I will be going to the Ormstown one when it comes along, as well as the Ingleside one later on. We can't participate in conformation, but I was wondering where to train for agility. I think it would be great for Sugar, because she is sooo quick and agile and clever.

Hi guys,

Kashmir's liking her crate, she does go in by herself to sleep or tear up her bedding when she's having an energy spurt! She just cries a little when i put her in there when i leave the appartment... I also put her in there for time-outs when she gets too excited about her food or she gets to growling and biting my ankles hard - actually i wanted to ask you guys if you thought this was a good idea or if she'll associate negative things with her crate if I do this...

When she gets her shots I'd definitely like to come by your park:) We have one close to our place up on doctor penfield, and also the park by the mount-royal, that's where we're planning to go on a regular basis.

How old are sugar and vegas? are they still puppies?

Yeah, i have to say Kashmir's been napping a lot today! we have an a/c but it's just a window unit and we didn't turn it on today... guess that's why she's so snoozy... she likes to sleep behind me when i sit on the floor and lean on the couch, or she just climbs up on my lap :) such a lovebug sometimes!
