Hello and welcome,
I too had a boxer as a child but became more familiar with labs as an adult.
They are soooo different.
My lab was content in the house doing his own thing and didn't really care where I was. - Henry has to follow everywhere - toilet, shower, upstairs, downstairs.
My lab did not like being on furniture or beds - Henry thinks he owns them.
My lab constantly brought toys to me to play - Henry shows me them and runs away wanting to be chased.
We loved our lab with all our hearts and didn't want another after he died as we thought we would compare any new pup to him and they would never be able to match up.
We are so pleased we chose a boxer, and now can't imagine how any other breed can compare in personality.
They do tend to be puppy like for much longer than labs are and are much more stubborn, so training is essential.
Look into getting him into a puppy class, he will love the socialisation and check out the training thread on this site. I learned loads of valuable info (and still am!)
Boxers are so much fun,
enjoy your baby
