I have a 2 year old fawn male boxer that rules my house, his name is Odin. We have recently began discussing getting a second boxer to keep him company. I would love any advice on introducing a new dog into the house. I have read that boxer's tend to be jealous of other pets.

The only advice I can give you is if your male is alpha or you think he might be. Introduce them in a neutral place like a park. Then bring them home together. Best of luck

Our prior boxer Spinx was 2 when we got Tiger as a baby. She seemed like she was very dominant over him for a long time. Especially in the beginning when he was a lot smaller. Then when he got big enough they started fighting quite a bit to figure out who was going to be dominant. This went on until he was just over a year old and they got the order figured out between them. I would suggest if you get a pup not to leave them to play without supervision until the pup is old enough to hold its own. Not that the other one would intentionally hurt the pup but if they get to playing rough it might get hurt by accident. Once the pup gets bigger they are going to sound like they are killing each other while they try to figure out the pecking order. As long as they arent causing injury to each other then let them go...it's something dogs have to do. If you get an older companion make sure and introduce them slowly..maybe in neutral territory a few times (ie not at the house or in you current dogs yard...maybe try a park) until they get used to each other. Make sure and watch them while they are playing and expect that when you do put them together at home they are going to go through the dog thing and try to figure out the pecking order again. Also I would make sure and not feed them together for a while because some dogs can be very food protective and that may cause more problems at the beginning.

New introductions

Welcome to this wonderful place a weath of info and cyber friends!!
I am new here also and its like the only place I go on the net anymore..
I recently (aprox 5weeks) ago brought a new boxer pup into the home of an already established pack. Things have gon farely well
at first there was alot of intolerance from the older dogs to all that puppy stuff I never let them out of my sight together at first and monitored everyones behavior not allowing toe older dogs to growl all the time and not allowing the pup to be to intrusive on the older ones They have worked out relationships now Vince the large (94lbs) is treating her like a little sister now and will actually engage in play time. B.J. he's the very senior grumpy ol' man acceptably tolerant sporatically playful (on his terms) I think letting them all know they are loved helps alot.

I brought Dayla into our family when Hook was 3ish...and he ignored her for a bit and now they are best friends. I had no problems with introductions...but Hook is such a mellow man I could probably bring anything home and he'd be happy:)

Two boxers are indeed better than one!

I have noticed that my Roxy gets along much better with males rather than other females. After reading a little I have found some literature (boxer's for dummies) that supports my theory that boxers get along better with the opposite sex. You may want to consider getting a female to ease the introduction-stage along.
