My 2 1/2 year old female boxer is experiencing head tremors in the middle of the night. We took her to our local emergency clinic & they sent us to a neurologist this week. She passed the physical part of the examination & now we have to decide whether we should do an MRI & spinal tap. We just lost our 10 year old male boxer last year to brain cancer - we're in a panic right now but we don't want to make hasty decisions about the MRI & spinal tap. The neurologist said her tremors are not that bad & that some dogs just have them with no explanation so he's not pushing us to get the MRI & spinal tap just yet. I am worried that a tumor is starting to grow especially after losing our boy so I don't want to put the procedures off. Any suggestions or opinions would be highly appreciated. Thank you. Before you freak out, we went through the same thing with Nestle about a year ago when she was 1 1/2. What is exactly happening? Does her head just start shaking and then she wakes and is still shaking and it is like she doesn't know it is happening?

Nestle is fine. We switched laundry detergents and stopped using Febreeze and the head tremors stopped. I will do a search to try to find all the posts on this. It seems that there were several people who's babies experienced the same thing.

Her tremors always happen during the night when she's sleeping. She wakes up - she starts to shake her head then her body starts to quiver - sometimes she bounces up & down on her hind legs - then she sits & gently falls over. She's alert the entire time - her eyes are glassy though. She responds when we call her name - Hannah. This happened 4 different times already - each time lasting longer than the last. The neurologist didn't seem to be too concerned about this happening to her but I can't stand to see it happen & I panic thinking she's going to do it again.

Wow, that sounds so scarey. I am so sorry you have to see this. When Nestle had the shakes, it was only her head. I would search thorugh the Health Forums.

Poor baby. Keep us posted.

Thanks for your help Elyse. I talked to my husband today & we decided to have the MRI & spinal tap done if Hannah has another episode. I can't stand not knowing if something is growing in her brain. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't get the tests done & she got worse. We have a 10-year-old female boxer named Tootie - she has boxer cardiomyopathy & is living comfortably on medication & many trips to the heart specialist. We know she is on borrowed time - we just pray that she's with us for a long long time to come. Take care, Callista in York Pennsylvania
