hello everyone,can some1 help

hi, in 3 weeks time we are getting a 8 week old boxer puppie,and really cant wait. There is a few things that are worrying me and i was hopeing some could tell me there views, the thing is next week we are moving into a 2 bedroom flat it isnt small and will be plenty of room,and has a big garden.We have a 3 year old boy which is very good with dogs,and im also 16 weeks pregnant, my mum said today that it will be too hard work for me,my boyfriend said he will take the puppie out for walks and will help out too,so i think i will be fine, what does anyone else think??One more thing that is worrying me it may sound really silly, but because we will be new in this new flat do u think the neighbous will not like me because we have a dog?will they think he will be barking all day? . IF anyone can help i would be very happy, thanks for your time,

Hi there,

I recently got a boxer puppy myself, she's 11 weeks old now. I got her at 8 weeks just like you. Honestly, at that age, they don't really walk. Mine is just starting to follow me around when she's on leash outside, so you won't have to worry about having to walk your pup for a few weeks at least. I think when they're that young, they tend to play rather than go on organized walks. I'm sure your little boy can take care of that! As for the barking, mine doesn't bark that much. She'll bark when she knows i'm preparing her food (we're teaching her to quiet down for that, she's learning pretty quick) and she would cry/howl the first times we'd leave her alone in her crate, but that's also getting a lot better. Sometimes she'll make "mini-barks" when she plays. Other than that she's pretty quiet. So I don't think your neighbors will be disturbed, it's really not excessive barking. I'm sure you'll do just fine! Think of it this way: your pup will keep your 3 year old busy when you need to take care of your newborn!

Keep in mind a puppy requires alot of attention. Your toddler is going to have to be taught when to leave the puppy alone. The puppy is going to have to be taught everything, puppies don't just take care of their selves. Puppies are like newborn babies, constantly peeing; pooing and demanding attention. Check out BW's Puppy Section.

It seems like you are going to have quite alot on your plate in the next year, you may want to think of waiting a bit on the puppy.

I have a 6 week old baby girl, Lizzy, and a 12 week old baby boy, Baxter. I got Baxter when he was 6 weeks as well. Liz does like to bark, when playing, but I don't feel that it is excessive. I live in a two bedroom apartment, and have had only one complaint. It was in regards to some droppings that Baxter left on a neighbors patio, my fault for not watching. Liz howls when she is in her crate, however Baxter didn't seem as loud. They differ greatly in the way that they act/acted at 6 weeks of age. Baxter slept alot, and was much calmer. Liz takes two hour power naps and then becomes a two hour nuclear explosion of energy, then naps, etc, etc.

They do well with my nieces, ages 4 and 8, however some boxer pups may need to be separated at times from children 5 and under, because they love to bite, and gnaw, on hands and feet especially, and it takes time for them to learn to control how hard that they bite. This may scare some young children. But at 12 weeks, Baxter is already very well behaved around very small creatures, both human and non-human. They grow so quickly, it won't be long before your baby is mature enough to be around any of your young children.

You will be busy! Remember, the puppy is like a baby too. They need a lot of attention and socializing to be a good pet. But, in general, Boxers don't bark a lot. It's my observation that when you hear a dog barking aimlessly like that, it's because they are bored, or have a separation anxiety.

Hello & welcome! Puppies and babies are a lot of work...and that is if everthing goes normally. The rewards of having a large group is great but it takes a lot of effort. If this is something you truly want then slow down, let the baby come forst then if everything else goes well then get a puppy. Take advantage of this awsome web site & all the great info it has to offer!
