Hey guys,
I just ran across this site and I thought I'd say hi to you all. I live in Fremont, CA (its in the San Francisco bay area) where I work doing computer stuff. I adopted a boxer mixed puppy, which I named 'Tuko', from a local animal shelter about a year or so ago. I named him from the Clint Eastwood flick "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly". Tuko was the ugly :) Unfortunately only 2 days after I adopted him, he came down with Parvo. I was given the option to either treat him or take him back to the shelter and get a new dog. I really didn't see an option...he was my dog. After 3 or so days of treatment, he died. I couldn't believe how attached I got in that short of a period. The thing that I remember about Tuko, was that when he had Parvo, he was sitting with me on my couch. Suddenly he vomitted, but he stopped and then dragged himself off the couch to finish vomitting outside. Even though I could've cared less about the couch getting dirty, he still didn't want to disappoint me by getting it dirty. With all the discomfort he was in, he was still thinking about pleasing me...wow. I felt honored to know and love this dog. Of course, I now am in love with Boxers!
Sometime in July of last year I ran into this Boxer Rescue website and it said that they were in need of foster homes. I own my own place, so I thought I'd give it a try. Six dogs later I'm still doing it. So far I've seen Soma, Brittney, Alex, Mugsy, Bella, and Cleo go to great homes. Of course I want to keep them all! They're all great dogs, every single one of them. My current foster dog is Barry, which I hope to get some advise on in another Boxer World forum.

Tim how wonderful you sound. Is it BAy Area rescue that you foster for?YOu will love this site. Also if you get the chance check the chat room, its also lots of fun. On a average, howlong do you foster each dog for? Also do you foster more than one at a time/

Another fellow Californian.....

I'm so glad you ran across this site! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your Tuko; I wished things worked out differently for you and him.
The people on the board are wonderful and the stories entertaining.

How far have you gotten with your studies on religion? I'm currently looking for a book on comparative religions to lose myself in.....

Hi Cindy and Lacie!
The name of the place I foster dogs from is Bay Area Boxer Rescue(BABR). If you want to check out the website, its:
http://www.boxer-rescue.org/

If you look under Available Dogs, I'm currently fostering tag id# 760. Isn't he cute? Let's see, on average it'll take anywhere from a week to 3 weeks. It depends on the dog a lot. Some have mange or kennel cough or are a little scared. We try to get them in some healthy condition before adopting them out. The last couple I've had, Bella and Cleo, only stayed a week. The little guy I have right now, Barry, will probably be with me for awhile. He's very scared of people...LOVES other dogs, but doesn't trust people. I just showed him to someone today, but she was turned off that he didn't come to her. I couldn't blame her. He just needs a lot of TLC. So far, I've only fostered one at a time. My roommate has a 14 year old German Shepherd mix, Kimba, that also lives with us. I'll probably take on two sometime though...the last couple I've had were so well behaved, that I could've easily had both at the same time. I'll check that chat room out...sounds fun!

Hey Elsa!
I'm so glad to have run across this website too! Hmmm...some good comparative religion books. Well you can't lose with Huston Smith. He's awesome...the book I'd read would be The World's Religions. Another good one is by Philip Novak, The World's Wisdom. If you want some real CRAZY readings, let me know. As for now, I don't want to scare all my nice new friends away ;)

Bay Area In Da House!!!

Unfortunately, I'm not in Cali anymore, I used to live in San Jose, and my mom is currently in Fremont (by BART) -

I'm sorry about Tuko - My Boxer Debo had Parvo, however, he is still here with me today :) one year later -

How special of a person you are to foster...I have always wanted to do that, however, we are renting and have cats...you know how all that goes...I think people who foster are very special to love a dog (cat/whatever) and give it to a loving family to care for! Thank you!

Welcome to this board, I look forward to hearing more from you!

Welcome!

Welcome to the board, Tim. What a wonderful person you must be to share your home and all that love with so many wonderful boxers in need. I salute you, my good man!

I'm so sorry about Tuko. I lost my cat of 20 years last Feb., and it was one of the most devastating events of my life. It is so very, very hard to lose your dearest friend and pet, one who loves you so much and so unconditionally. My heart goes out to you.

But, welcome and we hope to hear lots of stories about your rescue dogs. Are you planning on adopting one for your own? Sounds like you might need a little extra special, one-on-one boxer lovin'. :D

Letting you know ahead of time I'll e-mail you so that you can send me the names of the really good, crazy comparative religious books. There is also a site you might be interested in; philosophy, etc... I will send the link to that as well. evilicon
