greetings all..this is my first post..i am amazed at this worderful site..everyone seems so warm and helpful..we lost our 4 year old male brindle only a few weeks ago..my family is devastated!! he began acting strange, not eating, and finallly, only within a few days time, could not distinguish between a family member and a stranger..he became a threat to my children..the vet, (i went to 3 of them!!) all had the same diognosis, lesions on his brain, that turned out to be cancerous..there is a huge void in our lives..our boxer brought us sooo much love!...he can NEVER be replaced, but we are thinking of a new pup..i am fearful having a boxer again..i have been hearing of many others who have lost boxers at a young age..what is the general opinion? can anyone offer me some insight? i have had dogs my whole life, and trained jumpers (horses) and taught dressage before my family grew too large for me to leave the house every morning at dawn!! I cannot emotionally go through the loss of another boxer so young...

Your introduction brought me to tears - I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. We simialrly had to help our beloved boxer cross over several months ago, and know all too well the grief you are experiencing. Our Mya had several serious health problems at a relatively young age, and I momentarily found myself questioning whether I really wanted another and risk going through the same thing again. Then I thought about all the things that made her so special, and new that I needed another boxer in my life - it was and is well worth it. You will eventually know what is right for you. I pray that you will have the strength to get you through this difficult time - Cathy

I'm so sorry for your loss.... I would be completely devastated if something happened to Tof.

As for whether to get another puppy.....this is life.... there are no guarantees and there is no permanency. It sounds harsh, but I don't mean it that way..... You can make sure you buy a puppy from a responsible breeder that has done all health checks on the parents and you can get your pup checked, but there are still no guarantees.... You need to decide if the love and joy you get from having a boxer in your life outweighs the risk you're taking by opening up your heart to another.... Getting a puppy would never replace your lost boxer, it would just give you an opportunity to feel the love and joy that a silly boxer can bring to you. I am sure you will make the decision that is best for you.

And again, I am so sorry for your loss...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know I would feel a void if something happened to Kia or Rocky at any age. For me, now that I have experinced how boxers love their family, I would get another one. Mine are so lovable I would be lost without that, so I would have to get another one as soon as I could.

AGAIN I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR LOSS!!

Sorry about your brindle

This is my first boxer. We have had her for about 2 weeks. In the short time she has been with us, she has broutht so much love and laughter. I have never meet a dog like Ollie. Boxer's seem to have a special personality like no other. I'm sure nothing will replace the one you lost but a new puppy will add alot. Good luck

Boxer Pal
thank you for the comfort

all of the kind words and encouragement have brought me great comfort...i miss my boxer every minute of the day, but especially when its quiet and the kids are in school, there is no big head laying on my lap and with a big sigh making me feel so safe and loved...i know there are no guarantees with any animal..i only hope after some healing we can move on and open our hearts to another boxer knowing that however short our time together may be, its worth it...

I too lost my baby girl earlier this year... but my heart opened back up to another. Brandy will never be replaced but Abigail sure has helped feel the void in our lives. I miss Brandy each and everyday and would give anything to have her back but where she is I know she is no longer in pain. When time is right your heart will open back up and hopefully you will chose another of these special dogs. I could not think of having any other type of a dog... I love my boxers and have to have a boxer fix each and everyday. I had 7.5 years with Brandy I feel that was way to short but I would not give up a minute of it I loved her so much. Abigail I hope lives for many many years to come.. She is my fourth..

I am very sorry for your loss.. time will heal your heart ..I still feel the pain of our loss and am crying right now for Brandy.. Good luck in whatever you decide.. God speed your brindle baby angelicon

I can understand.

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss.

Within about 4 years, I have lost 3. However, I had between 10 and 11 1/2 years with them. I lost the last one in July, and we did not feel that we could go through that heartbreak ever again. However, the house felt very empty, so we started looking for another boxer. Well, we now have Bo. He's a 9 week old handful. You will never be able to replace the one you lost, but the new one will definitely help the heartbreak. Bo has wiggled his way into my heart right next to where the others are. I can look at pictures of my boxers gone, and not feel so overwhelmed with grief. They are not sick or hurt any longer, and I am sure they knew that I loved them very much. I have Bo now to love and take care of for however long. They are all special in their own unique way, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
